Hello friend,
One thing we've seen over the past four years at #GrabYourWallet is that whenever the Trump administration does something particularly
bad
, there's a corresponding rise in traffic to the boycott list.
The first time was in the winter of 2017 during the administration's earliest attempts at a Muslim ban. That's when Nordstrom announced it was dropping the Trump brand.
Next was when Trump made his infamous “both sides” remarks after the neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. At the time, we highlighted the U.S. CEOs who were members of Trump's economic and manufacturing forums. The forums disbanded.
In 2018 the world learned the Trump administration had separated thousands of children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border. Again, we saw a massive surge in traffic to the list. Shortly thereafter, Hudson's Bay announced it was dropping the Trump brand. Within days, Ivanka Trump announced she was shuttering her line.
Now, with new cases of coronavirus continuing to increase in Trump's America and the Trump administration issuing threats of violence against Black Lives Matter protestors, traffic to the
#Grab Your Wallet
list is once again spiking.
As longtime #GrabYourWallet participants, we know from experience we can
have a
lot
of impact in this moment. To this day, there are companies that pay millions of dollars a year to the CEOs and board members who funded Donald Trump's political rise in 2016. The message to such companies is this:
our hard earned money will not
pay the salaries of those who fund the political rise of racists.
I urge you, contact
one of the 46 companies that remains on the #GrabYourWallet list. Tell that company you will not do business with it again until it cuts ties with the executives who funded Trump's rise.
As always, if you hear back from any of the companies on the list, let me know. I am a citizen journalist working in tandem alongside you, so I stand ready to amplify any responses you receive.
