Mauck & Baker filed a lawsuit on behalf of Illinois Bible colleges against the Illinois Board of Higher Education on Friday, January 16. See recent media coverage and read the article below for more information.
US District Judge Robert Gettlemen rebuked Waubonsee Community College in Lela vs. Waubonsee Community College, a higher education free speech case, in a memorandum opinion and order on Thursday, January 22.  With the help of Rutherford Institute, Attorneys Whitman H. Brisky and Noel W. Sterett represented plaintiffs Wayne Lela and John McCartney. Read more on the case. 
Mt. Zion Church of God in Christ of Garden City, Kansas settled with Garden City officials over a zoning dispute. The church was given a consent order in the settlement agreement and can now legally operate for worship.   
Noel W. Sterett will speak at the ABA's Conference on a panel titled "State and Local Government Law Religious Land Use Litigation Since 2000" on February 5th in Houston, Texas. Noel will be joined by other RLUIPA and municipal attorneys. 
The case for Illinois Bible colleges

Mauck & Baker filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of the Illinois Bible Colleges Association against the Illinois Board of Higher Education. The IBHE prevents Illinois Bible colleges from operating and granting degrees unless their teaching and curriculum are approved by the state. We believe religious communities should determine the standards and criteria necessary to complete a degree for a ministry vocation.
