The last two weeks at Tailwheel Town

Son Hooper and I have been flying the PA12 and we're killing two birds with one stone, since he's getting current and I'm getting to practice flying from the back seat.

Hooper checks out in the Piper PA12.

Speaking of flying from the back seat, I've had a chance to do more of that due to a cool event;  Alan Gatward is the guy who was the last to fly the 140 and the first to fly the PA12.  We also did his high power endorsement in The 182 from the Sisters Airport.

Alan and I flew the PA12 up to Madras and did some multiples.  We learned that the maneuver must be done differently with the PA12.  It flies SLOWER!  That's cool.  Alan did a great job with the -12 and helped to prove that it is indeed a step up for us here at Tailwheel Town!

The  PA12 is now the Tailwheel Town tailwheel instruction and master class aircraft.  With its centerline seating and oodles of power, it's going to be great.  The second 140 is in the shop and will eventually be available.  With its O-235 Lycoming engine, it will be a hoot to fly and will share duties with the PA 12.

This week's new article on the Tailwheeler's Journal:

This week's new article is the latest contribution to our feature known as "The Pilot's Bookshelf".  It's a review of "Shoot Like a Girl", a book by Mary Jennings Hegar.

I first became aware of this amazing story when listening to NPR's Terry Gross on the radio.  I immediately ran out and got a copy.  It's a great book and I hope my readers will get it.  You can also go to NPR's website and listen to the interview that started this whole thing!

An Older Article:

This week's older article is #49 Multiple Landings.  This maneuver has become a staple at Tailwheel Town because it is so useful at increasing pilot skills.  I hope you'll check it out.  Here's the link.  There is also an accompanying video on the Tailwheelers Journal.  The video is here.
