"Build community wherever you go."

~ St. Angela Merici

Dear Sacred Heart Schools Community,

St. Angela Merici’s guidance rings as true today as it did nearly 500 years ago—we are called to build community wherever we go. Sacred Heart believes that community is a fellowship of support and connection, where we call each other by name while serving our neighbors, peers, and the world through inclusivity, listening, and bridge-building.

Building community comes to the forefront as we share gratitude for the many uplifting events and activities encompassing the first two months of school. While summer is an important time to refresh, our campus is more vibrant when our whole community is present.

Our year started with a special emphasis on welcoming, belonging, and connecting – all are reflections of Christ’s love. We welcomed new families and returning students to campus, our parents connected through cocktail parties and Mock Schedule nights, and our grandparents celebrated their special bond with their grandchildren on campus. The Rose Mass at SHA inducted our freshmen class as Valkyries---strong women of great faith, and the spirit of community is alive daily as the preschoolers enjoy their new playground.

The most sacred place on campus is the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception. The chapel unites us together for prayer and worship, and our school community and Mass of the Air have missed being in the chapel. After nine months of updates and restorations, the Chapel has reopened for all. The restoration of this beautiful, sacred space meant so much more to all those involved. We thank the approximately 400 donors whose gifts made the restoration possible and ensured the Chapel will be here for generations to come. We thank alumnae Amy Bergeron and Anna Tatman for being a part of this project. The Chapel’s beauty comes alive when we gather for Mass and celebrate the Eucharist - no other moment could mean more for our community.

Sacred Heart Schools is part of the Ursuline Education Network (UEN) – which unites us with Ursuline Schools across the United States and the United Kingdom. The amazing part of visiting a sister school is how St. Angela’s charism comes to life in each school.  We welcomed representatives from UEN this month to see our charism in action, and their remarks were outstanding. After visiting each of our schools, they said, “Sacred Heart is a model for how to carry the Charism on an Ursuline campus,” and “The core value of community is embodied on this campus, and it is palpable.”

The spirit of St. Angela is alive at Sacred Heart Schools.

We are blessed by a wonderful community of alumnae, faculty, staff, students, parents, and grandparents. As we continue to build community throughout the year, we invite you to join us.
