STATIC CONTROL FLOORING

The danger of ESD

You—AKA humans--cannot feel electrostatic discharge unless it has a potential of 2000-3000 volts. Think of touching a metal doorknob during the winter.

Why it matters

Sensitive electronic equipment, like the kind in an electronics manufacturing plant or in a healthcare lab or medical setting, can be damaged by a shock of as little as 100 volts. Consequently:

  • Sensitive devices could be damaged by ESD without knowing it.
  • You experience nothing, but the device is destroyed or data is corrupted!
  • Fires and explosions have occurred from static discharge without a person feeling anything

Going deeper

ESD flooring provides the most effective solution to mitigate electrostatic discharge in most settings—including healthcare and plants where electronics are either employed or manufactured.

It’s the humidity

Indoor conditions play a role in static discharge mitigation, particularly in a healthcare setting. Sustaining a relative humidity or RH between 40 percent and 60 percent RH enables charges to mitigate natural.

Automotive & Transportation

The use of electronics in the automotive industry is expanding at a tremendous rate as new systems are being added annually. These systems have to function properly to meet comfort and safety requirements, all while working in a mobile environment that is subjected to more stress than a typical electronic device. Failures in devices can have far-reaching impacts.
