Season's greetings! I hope this finds you very well.

It has been a big year for the Creation Justice Program, and we have plans to make a big difference with your support and involvement in 2026.

This year we humbly accepted a leadership role with the StopGas.org coalition, which opposes toxic "natural gas" in the states of Oregon, Idaho and Washington. We launched a new website (StopGas.org), led a communication campaign across eastern and central Oregon, and visited several communities to give presentations on the risks of gas to our safety, health and climate.

Over the past year, we have learned how toxic fossil gas really is, and how severely it impacts people's health across Oregon. We have a three-step plan to address this injustice in 2026.

Step 1: Provide education and air quality testing -- to help people understand their exposure to toxic pollution from fossil gas.

Step 2: Launch service centers -- to help people access existing funding and technical assistance to remove fossil gas pollution from their homes ASAP.

Step 3: Organize impacted communities and seek compensation -- to make polluters pay for the additional resources needed to remove pollution from the places we live, learn, play, and work -- and to address the costly harms to our health.

Without a doubt, this will be a major effort, and we need all the help we can find (time, talent and treasure). Can we count on your support in 2026? Please consider giving a year-end gift, and let's connect about how else you would like to contribute to the cause.

In solidarity,

Peter Fargo

P.S. In 2025, we hosted a record-breaking Earth Summit with over 420 people and 18 local hubs. Together we dug deeper into climate and disaster resilience, while we also advocated for landmark policies, including: The People's Right to a Healthy Environment, the Climate Superfund (also known as Make Polluters Pay), and a statewide transportation bill that meets the needs of both people and planet. We are so grateful for the opportunity to partner with you to do even more in 2026.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE NEXT EARTH SUMMIT

We are excited to announce that our next Earth Summit will be on Sunday, May 17, at 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. Pacific. We look forward to working with local hubs to prepare for a meaningful gathering that makes a difference across our communities.

Read the article, Natural Gas is Toxic. People Need to Know, in the latest edition of EMO's VOICE newsletter.

Also, on Nov. 12 we hosted a webinar on this subject. You can watch the webinar recording here. (Enter 07U0dxA# as the passcode to access the webinar.)

Here are the key takeaways:

  • Natural gas is not natural. It is toxic. Two recent Stanford studies, published in the journals Science and Environmental Science & Technology, explain why:

  • Gas has hidden costs. The health, safety, climate, and financial costs are paid by all of us. They should be paid by polluters.

  • We can stop this. Will you take 30 seconds to sign our petition to the Oregon Public Utility Commission? With your help, we can end the subsidies that allow Cascade Gas to expand its gas network with ratepayer funds — because ratepayers should not have to pay to expand toxic infrastructure.

Sign up at StopGas.org to be part of a NW-wide network coordinated by EMO. We aim to inform our neighbors who are exposed to gas as we also hold corporations and governments accountable for promoting this harmful product.
