Jingle Jog: Holiday fun with a purpose

Oak Grove raised non-perishables for the Mule Packs program during the annual Jingle Jog on Friday, Dec. 9, at the elementary school.

The event kicked off with a parade, featuring Christmas and movie characters. Randy Bailey of Z95 the Bone served as the emcee for the event. The Poplar Bluff High School JROTC, Choir, Drum Line and Pom Squad led the opening ceremonies. In costume were staff and community partners, including sponsor Poplar Bluff Realty, the Three Rivers Shrine Club and friend of the district, Dale Gaebler.

The Jingle Jog was established by Principal Jenifer Richardson in 2005 to teach students about goal setting through charity and physical fitness. Students estimate how many laps around a designated area they can complete in six minutes, and have the option of bringing in that same amount of items for a select fundraising drive.

Coordinated by Chartwells School Dining Services, the Mules Packs program supplies families in need with food for the weekend.
