Hundreds served at Community Thanksgiving
About 800 patrons participated in the annual Community Thanksgiving sponsored by Chartwells School Dining Services in collaboration with Student Council on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Poplar Bluff High School.
A total of 13 44-pound cases of turkey breast were purchased for the occasion, reported Trish Wilson, food services office manager and safety coordinator. JROTC assisted with parking duty, art students designed place mats for the tables and school administration volunteered to help serve the food alongside kitchen staff.
StuCo collected $200 in donations for the Haven House during the event, adding to their fundraising total of over $1,000 for the women's shelter. Students also accepted winter wear to help stock the Giving Closet.

Life Skills class treat their families
The Life Skills class at Junior High hosted a Thanksgiving meal for parents on Friday, Nov. 16, to exhibit their cooking skills and express gratitude.
School board members and district administration were also invited to the luncheon, along with the Kids in the Kitchen cooking club of Lake Road Elementary. The cooking club learns how to prepare no-bake dishes with the Life Skills class on club day twice a month.
"This is my favorite part of Thanksgiving," commented parent Lorrie Busse, who has participated in the annual event since its inception last year under the tutelage of instructors Courtney Rutledge and Steven Frey.
The feast included 15 16-pound smoked turkeys, corn, mashed potatoes, macaroni, lemonade and cookies. The food was paid for through fundraising efforts from a dance and the
Mule Shack, a student-run school store.
