The Book in the Bluff art exhibit
Several R-I students submitted regional award-winning art as well as an essay for the Poplar Bluff Municipal Library's recent exhibit, earning a chance to meet the daughter of the event's literary inspiration.
In the water-themed art contest entitled "The Book in the Bluff," Piper Duncan of Junior High placed second overall, while classmates Caylee Elliott and Harley Kirn were named honorable mentions; Hudson Matthews of the Middle School won best of show in the water color division; Lauren Hamilton of the Middle School won best of show in the mixed media division; Kason Henderson of Junior High won best of show in the most creative division; Hank Traxel of Senior High won best of show in the pencil division; and Elizabeth Shirrell of Senior High placed third in the essay contest.
The top three students in each category won monetary awards ranging from $25-100 from sponsor Sterling Bank. All the submissions were on display last month at the library. Students who attended the award reception were treated to lunch with guest book lecturer Judy Rantz Willman, the daughter of the subject of "The Boys in the Boat."

4th annual Transportation Day
From a helicopter to a Segway, kindergartners got to explore over 20 modes of transportation during the fourth annual Transportation Day on Friday, Nov. 4, at the Kindergarten Center.
This year's fleet included emergency vehicles, dirt bikes, classic cars, a bus, a limousine, a semi-truck, a boat and even a horse. The event was organized by Pennie Ethridge, the Kindergarten Center's Fun Friday director, and coincided with a teaching unit recently completed.
