Shine the Light:

Our Campaign Is Glowing Brighter!

An update from the campaign chairs

Dear Fellow St. Philippians,

We just completed our first year of the campaign, and we are blessed to have received pledges and contributions totaling $13.4 million versus a campaign goal of $20.5 million—65.4% of our goal! Restoring and fully utilizing our historic campus—the Sanctuary, Chapel, Church Office, Parish House, and Tea Garden—is our top priority. To date, we have commitments for over 80% of the funds necessary to restore our historic campus. In addition, we seek to restore and utilize our State Street property for the church’s ministry, as well as raise funds for new ministry opportunities.

Over 250 individuals and families have contributed or pledged to the campaign so far. Since November of 2022, St. Philip’s has been blessed to receive over $7 million in actual donations for Shine the Light! We invite all parishioners to join this critically important effort. In the upcoming weeks and months, we will reach out in person to many more members of our church family. We hope to provide more personal opportunities to learn about Shine the Light and invite each of you to join our priority to prepare St. Philip’s for the future.

In His Name,

Martha Freshley

World Missions at St Philip’s Gets a Shot in the Arm with a Visit from

Jenny Noyes and Chris Royer

By Susan Keller, World Missions Committee Chair

Our church was blessed by hosting the Mere Anglicanism in so many ways. One of those ways was that some of the amazing people who came to Charleston to attend the conference January 18–20 then came to worship with us on Sunday the 21st. We were so very blessed to have two special people who are surely some of the most “in the know’’ folks for Anglican mission in the world, Chris Royer and Jenny Noyes, join us for a meet-and-greet after church.

Above: Jenny Noyes showed off her selfie skills on January 21.

St. Philip’s Clergy Team’s Wives Enjoy Fellowship at Litchfield Beach

Kristin Miller, Ellen O’Dell, and Jane McGreevy headed up to the Litchfield Inn last weekend to enjoy a weekend of fellowship, learning, and rest with other clergy spouses at the annual diocesan retreat.

The ladies heard from speaker Susan Alexander Yates, and when they sang their praises to the Lord, they were led by St. Philippians Joanna Macmurphy and Pam Dickson.

Open Gates Equal Twice as Much Work

There's a lot that goes on behind the scenes at the church that most people luckily don't need to think about. If you're not on the Altar Guild, you might not think about how the sacraments get to the altar or who polishes the silver. If you're not one of our faithful inSPIRE ladies, you might not think about how your newsletter gets into that envelope with your name on it. And if you're not Charlie the cemetery guard cat, you might not think about how we keep the grounds secure and trouble-free.

Well, up until just a few months ago, Charlie needed to worry only about the cemetery, which lies across the street from the sanctuary, because the graveyard had to remain locked until repairs were completed on the roof. Now, though, Charlie's patrol area spans both sides of the street as the cemetery and the graveyard that surrounds the church are open to the public during church office hours.

It was a big job before, and it's an even bigger job now––but we have yet to hear a single complaint out of him. What a trooper!

If you follow us on social media, you already knew about Charlie's expanding duties. But if this is the first you're hearing about it, why not take a minute right now to give us a follow so that you, too, can be among the first to hear about schedule changes, special events, and our behind-the-scenes helpers?
