This Week's Happenings

TODAY: Tea Room Volunteer Form Mailing

Helping hands appreciated!

11:00 a.m. in the Parlor

Your faithful inSPIRE ladies––the ones who stuff and label the inSPIRE envelopes each week––will be joining forces with the Tea Room committee this morning at 11:00 a.m. to get your Tea Room volunteer letter and form out to you today!

Are you available to lend a hand? This will be a fun time of fellowship (light lunch items provided), and it should go quickly if we have a few extra helpers. (And yes, we use self-sealing envelopes!)

Can't wait for the mail? Sign up for Tea Room now!

TODAY: Monthly Men's Lunch

with Major General John S. Grinalds

Noon in the Parish Hall

Gentlemen, join us today at noon in the Parish Hall for our monthly men's lunch! Park for free in the church parking lot on the corner of Church and Cumberland Streets, and bring a friend!

This month's speaker is Major General John S. Grinalds, who graduated with honors from West Point in 1959 and was the first cadet since 1814 to be commissioned directly into the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1997, General Grinalds accepted the position as President of The Citadel, where he served with distinction until retiring from that post in 2005. General Grinalds and his wife, Norwood, have been married for more than 60 years and have four children and numerous grandchildren.

About General Grinalds

SUNDAY:

Three-Week Rector's Forum Special Begins

God’s Revelation: Creation and Redemption

March 10, 17, and 24 ~ 9:30 a.m. in the Parish Hall

God, by his Word, through his Word, spoke into existence all that is. In so doing, he clearly revealed himself to all mankind through that creation. But “His Story” was not yet complete. When the time was right, that same Word became flesh, dwelt among us, died, and rose again, opening a door we could not: our redemption. Join us for this special Rector's Forum series as Alan Runyan leads us in this journey from creation to the Cross.

Just Around the Corner

This Ship Is About To Sail!

Parish Annual Meeting

Stirs Up Excitement for Our Future

When the Rev. Jeffrey S. Miller took the helm as Rector of St. Philip’s in 2016, the church we call home was described to him by a parishioner as a ship run aground—a majestic ship, yes, but one that nonetheless had stalled on its journey.

Over these past eight years, though, the Lord has blessed this ship’s crew—its parishioners, clergy, staff, and Vestry—and used us to get it seaworthy once again, to point its bow back around and push it out into the water.

He's Actually 1% Chihuahua

In the week leading up to our annual meeting, we had a string of very important visitors. First up was Anson, a Springer Spaniel, who, at just 16 weeks old, is the youngest visitor we’ve had in quite some time. Don't let her age fool you, though––she can already offer her paw when asked, and she will lie patiently on her side while being used as a bongo set (provided she has a tasty leash to chew on).

The next day, we got a visit from Heidi, a 23-week-old Dachshund, who came to help look for her mom's missing Bible and decided to inquire about part time work while she was here. She listed puppy breath as one of her strongest assets, but another plus is that she would be the fourth one in the office with a September 24 birthday! At this point, it might make sense to simply make that a requirement for employment.

Finally, 159-week old Gus (you don't have time for us to list all the breeds that show up in his DNA) stopped by on Saturday to help with annual report printing, although he spent the majority of his time sunning himself in the Tea Garden courtyard and barking at carriage horses.

If you follow St. Philip's on social media, you already knew about our string of furry visitors. But if this is news to you, why not take a minute right now to give us a follow so that you, too, can be among the first to hear about schedule changes, special events, and office helper news?
