A Reflection from Rev. Becky+
Last week, I was teaching an online class about lay evangelism for the Stevenson School of Ministry, and I had a reaction that even surprised myself.
When I hopped on to teach, my co-instructor was chatting with our class about name tags and other tactile welcoming practices. And then she said, “Let’s move on into more spiritual matters.” and I said “NO, WAIT! Name tags ARE a spiritual matter.”
If this seems odd to you, hear me out: As Christians, we are called to welcome the stranger in our midst. As Christians, we are called into the incorporation of one body in Christ. As Christians, even as God calls us each by name, we need to be able to know one another by name. Name tags help us get to a place where we really know and love one another.
Now, I know many of you already do know and love each other, but imagine yourself walking into Good Shepherd for the first time: Who are these people? And that’s okay not to know. But now imagine yourself walking into Good Shepherd for the second, third, fourth, fourteenth time: You’ve been introduced before, but what is their name?!? It feels embarrassing to ask at this point… what we’re trying to do is bring the awkwardness factor of joining a new church down to as close to zero as possible.
Keep an eye out for me greeting folks in the next few weeks – I’ll be making your nametag to help me bring the awkwardness factor down to zero, but it’s really about much more than that. Nametags seem like not a big deal, but actually, they are.
So, be ready to know and be known, to love and to be loved.

This week at Good Shepherd
Choir Rehearsal Schedules
The Cherub and Alleluia Choirs will rehearse together on Wednesdays for thirty minutes beginning at 5:15 p.m.
The Alleluia Choir will rehearse for another thirty minutes after the rehearsal with the Cherub Choir, finishing at 6:15 p.m.
The Good Shepherd Choir rehearses on Wednesdays from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and is open to all adults and high school students.
