APRIL 2013
The OA's 100th Anniversary...

The 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow is only two years away, and we want you to be part of this once in a lifetime celebration. The OA has created a one stop website that will feature important information related to the Order's anniversary.

This website will be periodically updated in the next two years so be sure to check back often. The site also features a link to the 2015 NOAC page. Check this all out by clicking here!

We Support Camping Award...

As the promotion of Scout camping is central to the Order's purpose, the National Order of the Arrow Committee recognized early the need to assist councils in meeting some of the challenges to their Outdoor Programs.

To help the National Committee meet this need, the Southern Region OA Committee established the Lodge Camping Support Subcommittee. The subcommittee's main focus is the utilization of the local OA lodge to assist with the Region's implementation of programs and initiatives, which promote and support Scout camping in their council.

To annually recognize lodges whose camping support efforts greatly enhance the outdoor programs of their councils, the Lodge Camping Support Subcommittee has developed the 'We Support Camping Award'. To be eligible for the award (which consists of a handsomely engraved plaque with colored logo), lodges must annually complete two (2) requirements.

New Brotherhood ceremony demonstration...

April is finally here, and with that comes the majority of the Southern Region's Conclaves. Each Conclave in each section is typically unique in their own way. This year however, Conclave's in the region will all share one common event - the demonstration of a new Brotherhood ceremony.

The ceremony should be available for viewing for Brotherhood and Vigil members at the Conclave. After the ceremony concludes Arrowmen in attendance will have the opportunity to provide feedback about the ceremony. This feedback will then be taken into consideration as the national committee continues to develop this new ceremony.

Coosa Lodge Spring Pow-Wow blows away all expectations...
Follow-up from the March eVoice.
When Coosa Lodge started planning this event, they weren't sure that it would work. They decided to try something new, roll the dice, and see what would happen. And boy, did it work!

With 700 participants and 200 registered staff - more than 900 people in total - the 2013 Coosa Lodge Spring Pow-Wow is officially the largest event that Coosa Lodge has ever hosted. It was larger than any Spring Fellowship or Fall Fellowship. It was larger than the Ordeal in 2000 that inducted 400 new candidates. It was larger than any Conclave they've hosted.

In the brainstorming of this event many different purposes floated to the surface: camping promotions, Order of the Arrow exposure, dues renewal, American Indian exposure, fellowship and fun! All these were easily achieved.

The Pow-wow was opened up to Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts to camp with the lodge and enjoy a full day of activities on Saturday including a full scale arena show that featured arguably one of the coolest Webelos crossover ceremonies ever done.

We would encourage your lodge to open up that box of the unknown and see where it leads you...You never know you might just excite that one Cub Scout that becomes the Southern Region Chief one day!

Echoes from the Voice...
