Helping Our Neighbors

Colorado Springs artists in the Saks Building (housing a gallery and many artist studios) on Bijou Street began their Arts Month dealing with the unknowns of smoke damage from a fire at Bingo Burger.

We encourage you to follow these social media accounts to stay up to date on how to support this community of artists:

  • True North Art Gallery: This artist collective has a fundraiser to help raise money to restore their gallery on Bijou St. You can also support the artists by buying art from their large collection online.

  • Yobel: Ethical Fashion Boutique and Clay Ross Art. Clay and Emily Ross are owners of creative business Yobel, which was displaced due to a fire almost a year ago in the building just west of the Saks Building. Now, this recent fire displaced Clay from his art studio in the Saks Building. Thankfully, Yobel has recent news - they will have a Holiday Pop Up event downtown beginning on Small Business Saturday (Nov 30), with more details coming soon! Save the date!

November Arts Together Workshop

Monday, November 4th from 6:00-7:00

Hillside Community Center, 925 S Institute St

Colorado Springs, CO 80903

Calling all Arts Educators! Workshop with Ballet Folklorico de Barajas plus a free book! Ballet Folkorico shares the art of traditional Mexican Folkorico Dance. Arts educators will discuss the history, cultural sensitivities, behaviors, and customs of Mexican culture. We will learn how Ballet Folklorico is keeping traditions alive and how it is helping young dancers in the community. We will take part in a traditional dance as well! A free book, Unearthing Joy, A Guide to Culturally and Historically Responsive Curriculum and Instruction, by Gholdy Muhammad, will be given out while supplies last.

What are Arts Together Workshops? For arts educators of all kinds, Arts Together Workshops are field trips to various arts organizations in the community. They are intended for educators to enjoy exploring the work other arts organizations are doing, engage in the art form itself and learn how they can be a resource for you. School-affiliated educators will receive continuing education hours.
