State Chamber Update
An all-electric Hummer? That ad during the Super Bowl yesterday made me think, "Wow! The times they are a changing!" I flipped up my iPad after the game and caught up on some old and new stories about electric vehicles that offered further evidence that rapid advancements in technology are disruptive and require almost chameleon-like adaptive qualities for businesses of every size.
A few months ago, Amazon ordered 100,000 all electric delivery vans that will start to hit the road next year. Waymo, formerly the Google self-driving project, ordered 62,000 self-driving Pacifica vans that are due for delivery later this year. That’s impressive when you consider the entire taxi, limo and ride-hailing industry in the United States is about 325,000 vehicles. The costs of service and maintenance for electric vehicles is projected to be much lower and the length of time each vehicle is in service is estimated to be around 500,000 miles. If your business has a fleet of vehicles, what does this mean for you?
