Now that another school year has officially come to a close, Catholic schools across the country are already looking ahead. Summer is more than a break from the classroom - it is a season to review and reflect on the year that has passed, identify challenges, evaluate opportunities for growth, and plan for another year. Today's investment in our students, our teachers, and our facilities will produce fruit far beyond next year’s class.
Every successful school year is an investment in the future of our Church.
As we know, Catholic schools do far more than teach reading, science, and math. These communities, centered on the Eucharist, help our young people grow in faith, discover their God-given gifts, and learn what it means to live as disciples of Christ. They help form future parishioners, catechists, ministry members, and parish leaders. They strengthen families, foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and help build vibrant parish communities.
Research continues to affirm what many of us already know: students who attend Catholic schools are more likely to remain engaged in their faith and in the life of the Church as adults, especially when schools, families, and parishes work together. Investing in Catholic education is not simply an investment in today's students - it is an investment in the future of our parishes, dioceses, and our mission.
We are encouraged to see so many of our partners embracing that vision!
Increasingly, parishes are making their schools a central part of their capital campaigns, recognizing that a thriving school is essential to a thriving parish.
Just this year, the Church of St. Aidan in NY dedicated $2.2 million of their $4 million raised to strengthening their parish school. Similarly, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, also in NY, is investing nearly half of its $2.1 million campaign into school renovations, while St. Francis Borgia in Missouri has committed almost $4 million of the more than $6 million it raised to renew and improve its school facilities.
We are also seeing schools confidently investing in their own future. We are presently engaged with St. Cecilia Interparochial School in Clearwater, FL, whose Hearts Lifted High Campaign is reimagining and renovating its campus. And, the All Saints Catholic Schools Network in the Diocese of Fargo, ND, is constructing the first of its kind St. Carlo Acutis Middle School, with over $5.1 million presently raised in their Ignite the Mission campaign!
These projects are about far more than bricks and mortar. They are investments in places where faith is shared, futures are shaped, and young people encounter Christ every day.
We are honored to partner with parishes, schools, and dioceses that are making these investments today so that future generations will continue to experience the transformative gift of a Catholic education and beyond.
