Notre Dame Academy Shines a Beacon on Catholic Education
By Lilliam Paetzold ’84, President/Head of School, Notre Dame Academy
For all of the challenges we face as a community during this time of uncertainty, it’s important to recognize the profound opportunity for Catholic education to demonstrate its distinct advantages in educating the whole child, as well as in its innovation and creativity.
Notre Dame Academy is one example of a Catholic school uniquely poised to continue exemplary academic instruction for the young people of our community. Our TK–12 faculty and staff are united in support of our students academically, socially, and spiritually.
While many public schools have scaled back daily instruction, NDA has implemented a remote-learning plan that seamlessly delivers a rigorous, engaging, and developmentally appropriate curriculum through a digital platform. Our plan represents the culmination of years of preparation by our faculty and staff to be a relevant 21st-century school with the technology, programs, and best practices to prepare students for uncharted territory. Our work promoting habits of mind and a growth mindset has set a new standard in Catholic education and equipped us to successfully transition to this remote-learning plan even in the most challenging of circumstances. In fact, this year the National Catholic Educational Association recognized Notre Dame Academy Schools of Los Angeles...Click here to read about their exciting award.

The Gift That
Lasts a Lifetime
Growing up, many of us heard from our parents that an education is the one thing they could give us that no one could ever take away. How right they were, and we came to realize how important the sacrifices they made for tuition, uniforms, classroom volunteering, and coaching became in our everyday lives.
The discipline, rigorous study, religious instruction, and commitment to parish life are hallmarks of our Catholic-education system. Today, some of our Catholic-school families add safety to that list, knowing that our schools do not tolerate gangs, bullying, drugs, and violence.
With the closure of schools predicted this fall, we face a new form of safety in the COVID environment. Let us pray that we can continue to deliver a quality education in a safe and healthy environment for the students and their teachers.
Every child deserves a quality education and excellent healthcare—this is what our culture of life together with the culture of giving is all about. Giving a child a quality education is a gift that not only lasts a lifetime and lives on in the generations that follow, but it is also a gift that can never be taken away!

Featured Beneficiary: Guardian Angel School
|
|
Guardian Angel school is more than a Catholic school – it is a community tucked within a housing project located in Pacoima in the San Fernando Valley. Over 95% of the students live at or below the poverty line and qualify for the free or reduced lunch program.
When these students show up for school in their uniforms to learn in classrooms with technology and led by compassionate teachers, there are no limits to what they can achieve, regardless of their family income levels. Guardian Angel is a school that encourages students to practice the virtues of faith, hope, and love while providing an excellent academic experience. Its teaching staff uses blended learning, dual language, music, sports, and literary classics to provide a wide spectrum of learning experiences for the students.
“We are a humble community, and we give our students the best possible formation. Most of our financial support comes from outside of our Pacoima community and we are grateful for the grants we have received from Donor-Advised Funds at CCF-LA. You are making a good investment in our students, and we will continue to work hard to earn your trust,” said Principal Mario Landeros.

News From Our

Archbishop Gomez, Cardinal Dolan and Cardinal O'Malley reminded us that "Catholic schools have provided an enormous public benefit by educating a diversity of Americans from every walk of life, including from every income level, but especially the poor and immigrant communities. For countless Americans, a Catholic education is the surest path out of poverty."
