A Note from our Executive Director

Dear friend,

“ Thank you so much for staying open during the holidays. It enables me to work. I so appreciate IVYP. ” I heard these words over and over as I met with parents in our Children’s Center last month. IVYP is open 249 days per year.

While this is challenging for our teachers and staff, it’s vital to our families to know that their children have a safe place to learn and grow while they are working. I ask you to join me in expressing gratitude to our staff for supporting our community throughout the year.

Please take the time to send a note of thanks to your child’s teacher and to all the hardworking people who support our community every day.

After School Program's Project Santa

When you look at the children and families in IVYP's programs you see the beautif ul diversity of culture and experience within the Goleta Valley. Which is why our After School program director Juan Pimentel developed a fabulous activity to honor six different cultures during December programming. This year, students will have projects that include: playing dreidl for Hanukkah, making flower wreaths for Diwali, giving presents for Christmas, making paper lanterns for Chinese/Vietnamese New Year, making sand catchers for Ramadan, and Kwanza. Juan’s creative ideas and research are a huge step in having all of the students in our school feel seen, heard and valued.

Staff Spotlight - Elizabeth Padilla

" My favorite teacher was from IVYP. She was my major inspiration to enroll in college and helped me pick a major when I wasn't sure what to do. This is another reason IVYP is real! The people that step into our center change for the better, and she has supported me as if she was my mother.  "

Each month we share a healthy, easy and affordable recipe to try that highlights ingredients you can get at our monthly food distribution on the first Thursday of every month. IVYP’s hosts first
Community Partners Lunch

In November, IVYP gathered local organizations and government agencies for a first ever Goleta Valley Community Partners lunch. Attendees gathered to learn more about how IVYP is investing in using data to inform our actions as we look to build upon the progress we’ve made through the Thrive Initiative. Participants worked collaboratively to brainstorm their assets, challenges, and resources missing within each organization present and in the community. Thank you to the many organizations who gathered together in partnership!
