Thanksgiving Assistance

The Holidays are just around the corner, and as in past years, Big Brothers Big Sisters will be collaborating with other organizations in the community that offer Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance to families in need. We are still collecting information, but wanted to share what we know at this point. Please pass this information on if you are aware of a family in need.

Those wishing to "adopt a family" or make donations to assist those in need this Holiday Season may wish to contact the agencies listed below for guidance on how to help.

Ingham, Eaton, Clinton, Shiawassee, and Ionia counties:

  • City Rescue Mission of Michigan is offering a Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day to anyone who signs up. To sign up visit the site at 613 E. Michigan Avenue in Lansing between 6-7pm any day before Thanksgiving. For more questions call (517)485-0145.

InghamCounty:

  • Christian Services/Love Inc. of Greater Lansing is offering Thanksgiving baskets to low-income families with verified need. Need is verified by Christian Services. Call the client intake line (517)394-5411 from 9-12pm and 1-3pm M-F. NOTE: Intake is from October 18-October 29th, but calls placed in the beginning of November will still be given a basket if donors are available.

  • CristoReyCommunity Center is offering Thanksgiving dinner on Thanksgiving day from 12-1pm at their building located at 1717 N. High StreetLansing. Anyone who is alone or in need is welcome. Call (517) 372-4700 between 8am-5pm, M-F. *Ask about free residential snow shoveling!*

  • GLEAP is offering Thanksgiving dinner to residents of the Grand Ledge School District on Thanksgiving day at 200 West River St Grand Ledge, MI. Call (517)627-4348 to apply. Proof of residency required.

EatonCounty:

  • Society of Saint Vincent DePaul St. Gerard is offering Thanksgiving Day dinner (and transportation) to those who find themselves alone and/or in need at the holiday. Thanksgiving dinner will be served at 12:30pm at the St. Gerard Parish Fr. Weber Hall at 4433. W. Willow Highway, Lansing (behind the school). Call (517)323-2379 to reserve or arrange for transportation. You will be picked up between 10:30am and 12:00pm.

ShiawasseeCounty:

  • A community Thanksgiving Dinner will be hosted by the NorthgateWeslyanChurch at the Shiawassee Council on Aging, 300 N. Washington St. in Owosso on Thanksgiving Day, November 25 from 12noon-3pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. Call (989)725-9339 for more information.
