New planning regulations coming into effect on Monday

More than 18,000 avail of rent-a-room tax relief

More than 18,000 people availed of the €14,000 rent-a-room tax relief in 2024, according to the latest figures from Revenue Commissioners. The relief, which allows homeowners with a spare room to earn up to €14,000 rental income tax-free, was introduced in 2001 in a bid to ease housing pressures. It is soon to be expanded to include rooms let out in back-garden modular homes.
