Please Continue to Keep Sick Children at Home
|
|
Earlier this month, MTSD shared an update from our Board of Education that included information on the current status of community spread (burden) of COVID-19 in the Mequon-Thiensville zip codes of 53092 and 53097. At present, the burden remains “high” in both zip codes, indicating that the ongoing pandemic is still very active and still very much a risk factor in our school communities.
Now more than ever, it is absolutely essential for families with children attending On Campus Learning to self-monitor their symptoms daily and keep children home when they are sick or displaying symptoms that could possibly be attributed to COVID-19. Students should not come to school if they have:
- A temperature of 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
- New respiratory symptoms including cough or shortness of breath
- Recent changes in sense of taste or smell
- A positive or pending test for COVID-19 (or if someone in their household has a positive or pending test)
- Recently come in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19
If a child becomes ill at school, he or she should notify their teacher immediately. Click here to view the MTSD health room procedures that will be followed if your child becomes ill during the school day.
If your child or someone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19 or has been tested and is awaiting the results, you must notify one of the following contacts as soon as possible:
Students should stay home from school and work with their classroom teacher to engage in remote learning during the time that they are awaiting a COVID-19 test result. To notify your child's school that they are staying home sick or will be absent for any other reason, please follow your school's regular daily attendance procedures.

MTSD Family Survey Out Now!
|
|
We're asking for feedback related to the start of the 2020-21 school year in the Mequon-Thiensville School District! A survey was sent to families through Infinite Campus on Wednesday, September 30. The purpose of this survey is to engage families in:
- reflecting on the start of the school year
- providing input and feedback
The anonymous survey is open from September 30 through October 15. The estimated time required to complete the survey is 5 minutes. Families are asked to submit a unique response for each child they have in MTSD schools. Your participation is important in our efforts to continue planning and improve operations as the school year progresses.

Referendum Project Update Presented on 9/21
During the MTSD Board of Education's regular business meeting on Monday, September 21, Executive Director of Business Services Sarah Viera provided an update on the district's referendum project. Throughout the last few weeks, work has been done in many areas, including the following:
-
Schematic Design: Schematic design is the first phase of all the architect's design phases. During this phase, Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA) is working with members of the MTSD team and Hunzinger Construction Company to determine the project requirements and goals.
-
Traffic Studies: Traffic Analysis and Design, Inc. (TADI) visited elementary and middle school sites during the week of September 14 to re-analyze traffic flow due to an increased volume of parent pick up and drop off.
-
Timeline: The district is on track to complete the schematic design process by the end of October.

Outdoor Learning Environments a Breath of Fresh Air at MTSD Elementary Schools
|
|
PTOs at all three MTSD elementary schools have recently come together to construct outdoor learning spaces at Donges Bay, Wilson, and (soon) Oriole Lane. These new open air "classrooms" afford our youngest students the opportunity to take advantage of some fresh air and enjoy a much-needed mask break (when appropriately distanced, of course). Click the link below to learn more about how these projects came into fruition!

What Does it Mean to be a Close Contact? Let Angus Explain...
|
|
When a child tests positive for, or is exposed to COVID-19, things can seem a little scary and uncertain. Angus from Homestead High School and Orville from Oriole Lane Elementary School t ook some time to help us explain MTSD's COVID-19 exposure and remote learning requirements. Take a moment to watch this brief video and learn more about the expectations surrounding quarantine and remote learning if a student were to test positive for COVID-19 or be identified as a close contact.
