Congrats Sharon Spence - June Callwood Award Winner

Our volunteer, Sharon Spence, has been awarded the June Callwood Award for Outstanding Volunteers through HPCO. Congratulations Sharon!

Established in 1994 by the Hospice Association of Ontario (now Hospice Palliative Care Ontario), the June Callwood Award honours exceptional hospice volunteers across Ontario.

Named after June Callwood, a passionate hospice advocate and community activist, the award has recognized 855 volunteers since its inception. Known for her integrity and dedication to social justice, Callwood's legacy lives on through her work and writing. We are proud to announce that our volunteer, Sharon Spence, has received this prestigious award!

Around the Hospice

Thank you, Brandy and Sophia, summer students with our grief and bereavement team, for facilitating a summer workshop. Kids ages 8-12 participated in creating their personalized magical garden.

Along with the plant of their choice they added mini houses, gems, ladybugs, mini logs and messages in a bottle that represented safe and happy places filled with memories, protection, strong support systems and special thoughts that are kept safe.

Therapeutic play is an important part of grief support. Doing fun things provides the perfect setting to learn, enhance their ability to cope and expand their perspectives even at a young age.

Thank you Brandy and Sophia for facilitating this summer workshop!

Sharing Stories

In the halls of our hospice, each day is filled with countless stories. Stories of courage, love, laughter, and beautiful goodbyes. We are privileged to be the keepers of these precious moments.

When we share these stories through social media, or in our newsletter we are slowly educating people that hospice is a beautiful place to be. Many in our community still shy away from hospice palliative care, and they are never going to know what it is really like unless they experience it or we tell them.

If you stumble on a moment that would be great to share, please text or email it to Jen Rowan! Don't forget to ask the resident's permission - faces and names aren't needed.
