Celebrating Social Workers Month – Honoring Our Entire Care Team

March is Social Workers Month, and here at Kemp Care Network, we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible impact of our social workers and the entire care team. Every day, you provide comfort, guidance, and unwavering support to patients and families facing life’s most difficult moments. From advocacy and emotional support to hands-on care and compassionate listening, each of you plays a vital role in making our hospice a place of dignity, love, and hope.

This month, we highlight our social workers for their dedication, empathy, and tireless commitment. But we also extend our gratitude to every member of our team—because it is together that we make a difference.

Thank you for all you do!

Advance Care Planning Month – Special Events in April

April is Advance Care Planning (ACP) Month, and we have special events to help you learn more.

On April 8th, join Armila for a 30-minute workshop designed for all staff and volunteers to explore and create their own ACP plan. This is a great opportunity to learn about the importance of planning ahead—both personally and professionally.

Enjoy a continental breakfast while you participate! 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM in the Great Room.

Mark your calendar and take this important step in your own advance care planning journey!

Department Highlight - Grief & Bereavement

As our programs grow and new faces join the team, it’s a great time to highlight the important work happening in Grief & Bereavement Services at KCN, overseen by the Director of Psychosocial, Grief & Bereavement Care, Cara Grosset. With more individuals and families reaching out for support, our team continues to provide a safe, compassionate space for navigating grief related to a death.

A Sampling of What We Offer:

🌿 One-on-One Grief Support – Whether in person or online, our social worker Gabriele serves bereaved adults, and our Child & Youth Counsellor, Kat, provides individualized support for children, youth, and families.

In the residence: Kathy offers psychosocial and grief support for our residents and their families, ensuring they feel supported during their end-of-life journey. All team members, including music therapy and volunteers, are available to support our residents and their families when needed.

🤝 Group Support Programs – Sometimes, healing happens best in a group. Gabriele leads a variety of peer-based closed bereavement support groups, with trained volunteers helping to facilitate meaningful connections. Kat offers monthly activity-based support groups for children and youth, Anything Goes, as well as Family Nights for the whole family.

📚 Community Outreach & Resources – From helpful referrals, collaboration with other organizations (e.g., PAIL), community education sessions offered by Cara, and unique supports like our Burger Boxes (designed for kids aged 0–17) and our Grief Text and Online Chat Service, we’re always looking for ways to extend support beyond our walls.

As staff, we all play a role in making sure residents, families, and community members know about these valuable services. Whether it’s a quick conversation or passing along a brochure, a small gesture can make a big difference.

Thank you to everyone who supports this work—you are making a difference! 💙

First Aid Training and Recertification

First Aid training is scheduled for April 28 and May 8, and all staff are required to complete it.

Please inform Debbie of the following:

  • Do you already have First Aid training and only need recertification?
  • Do you require the full training?
  • Do you have a scheduling conflict on either of these dates?

An email will be sent within the next couple of weeks with your assigned training date.

Well-Being Committee March Workshop

Supporting Grief in Everyday Conversations

Join us on March 28th at 11:30am in the Great Room.

Grief doesn’t always appear in big moments—it shows up in daily conversations, quiet pauses, and unspoken emotions. This 30-minute session, led by Cara Grosset, will provide simple yet meaningful ways to support those who are grieving in everyday interactions.

Through practical tips and real-life examples, we’ll explore how to offer comfort, acknowledge loss, and create a space where people feel heard—without needing the "perfect" words. Whether in a casual hallway chat or a routine check-in, small gestures can make a big impact.

Join us to learn how you can provide compassionate support at the moment.
