LATEST UPDATE: What to Expect With Construction

Temporary widening continues throughout the U.S. 69 corridor in preparation for the first major traffic shifts. The lane closure on northbound U.S. 69 at 151st Street remains in place for bridge work. Work will soon begin on drainage structures at the Blue Valley Parkway interchange. The contractor also will start work on the southbound U.S. 69 bridge over 143rd Street, which will result in overnight full closures of 143rd Street. Additional details and the detour route can be found below. Evergy has begun restoration efforts to land disturbed during its utility relocations in February and March, including repairing/replacing fence and seeding in areas around Blue Valley Parkway and 119th Street.

Three-Week Overnight Road Closure –

143rd Street

Beginning in early May, 143rd Street will close nightly Sundays-Thursdays to allow bridge work on U.S. 69 over 143rd Street to continue safely. The nightly closures will begin at 5 p.m. on Sundays and 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays each week until mid-May. 143rd Street will reopen each morning by 6 a.m. The marked detour route will take traffic to 151st Street along either Metcalf Ave. or Antioch Rd.

90-Day Lane Closure Reminder – 151st Street

The construction team has completed the deck patching and first concrete pour on the northbound U.S. 69 bridge over 151st Street. As soon as the concrete has cured sufficiently, traffic will be switched and work will continue on the opposite side of the bridge. The bridge work and related lane closure are anticipated to continue through early July. Please consider alternate routes for travel as traffic delays are expected. All work is weather-dependent.

Night Work Continues

Night work on U.S. 69 — underway for several weeks now — allows construction teams to get more work done and avoid implementing lane closures during more heavily traveled peak hours. Accomplishing work at night, when fewer vehicles are on the road, is safer for workers and travelers. Currently, night crews are completing grading work, installation of drainage structures, temporary paving, bridge rehabilitation and temporary barrier installation between Blue Valley Parkway and 143rd Street. Night work and nighttime lane closures are expected to continue through the summer, as weather allows.
