U.S. 69 Noise Online Meetings to Be Held
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is hosting a series of six online Zoom meetings from Jan. 24-28 to brief invited Overland Park property owners and residents on the findings of the U.S. 69 Expansion Project (69Express) noise study and to determine if they support construction of noise walls on U.S. 69 near them.

The online meetings will share location-specific findings from the 69Express noise study. The meetings are focused on sharing information about noise study results and proposed solutions with about 1,500 owners and residents of locations - known as Benefitted Receptors - that experience certain noise volumes and may benefit directly by a specific amount from construction of a noise wall. Voting on Whether to Build Noise Walls
Owners and residents of locations identified as Benefitted Receptors are being specifically invited to the online Zoom meetings, which are described in greater detail at www.69express.org/noise-study/, to help them understand their choices regarding the construction of potential noise walls along U.S. 69.

By state and federal policy, only these individuals are eligible to vote on whether KDOT should proceed with building the noise walls near them. In each of the 11 affected locations (see map), the proposed noise wall will only be constructed if 70% of the eligible Benefitted Receptor votes cast “for” building the wall as part of the upcoming U.S. 69 construction project.
Online Meeting Schedule
KDOT’s four virtual Zoom meetings will share location-specific findings from its 69Express noise study. All will have a similar format and general content. Each meeting will focus on the specific wall numbers and locations along the corridor as shown. You’re encouraged to attend the meeting for which you are invited. If not an invited owner or resident of a Benefitted Receptor, please attend the meeting for the wall closest to you.

Noise Wall Voting Results
KDOT will accept valid, completed ballots from eligible property owners and residents associated with locations deemed Benefitted Receptors through Feb. 1. Benefitted Receptors will be notified of the results of the vote after eligible ballots have been received and counted. Results also will be posted on the project website - 69Express.com - along with responses to comments or questions included on submitted ballots.

And Don't Forget...

The Environmental Assessment (EA) conducted as part of the U.S. 69 Expansion and Modernization Project remains available for review and public comment through January 22, 2022. 

Within the EA, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) evaluated the benefits and impacts of potential improvements to modernize and expand U.S. 69. The document also focuses on the noise study results and noise wall recommendations.
