Hello ARCS MWC Members,

Great news - we have 165 registered for the All Members Conference including at least one person from each of the 15 chapters. I feel sure as we draw closer to the date that more members will sign up making this a truly special event! Thank you to Lorraine Nordlinger and the planning committee for working all the details to make this event a success.

As a reminder, our Spring Celebration and Eagle Dinner (Friday, 4/27) are a part of the All Member Conference this year. Our honoree, Chad Holliday, Jr., Chairman, Royal Dutch Shell, is an outstanding candidate and has done much to support STEM throughout his career -- as a career engineer as well a member and past president of the National Academy of Engineers.

A few important notes about the Eagle Dinner, (6:00 pm to 10:00 pm) which features a sit down dinner, with salad, entree, and a special chocolate dessert and wine. Please note that this year, the Eagle Dinner features a cash bar which ensures that everyone attending the event gets to select the beverage of their choice to enjoy the evening.

Not only is the dinner our annual spring celebration, it is also the 50th Anniversary of the foundation of our chapter. Jane Riddle, past president, is creating a slide show honoring the history of our organization. She has been combing our archives and has found some real gems. I think you'll enjoy the show and the memorabilia. MWC ARCS Light for 2016-17 Karen Finkbiner, will be the hospitality room hostess, so please look forward to enjoying conversation with Karen in hospitality!

And a note about parking, members are welcome to park at the Willard Hotel but please know it is $35 per day and $55 for overnight. There are numerous parking garages within.1 mile of the Willard so please check Parking Panda or google to secure a convenient location.

Thursday (4/26) evening's Supreme Court dinner is a once in a lifetime opportunity and hopefully all of our members will take advantage of this chance to come to court. I know I can't wait to hear from The Honorable Anthony Kennedy, Senior Associate Justice, the Supreme Court of the United States of America. I would like to thank Marie Carr for all her efforts to make this dinner a special night for all.

I highly recommend you review the Conference program for the other events. Highlights including:

  • The Honorable Barbara Comstock (10th, VA), will kick off Wednesday's evening reception
  • Dr. Shameema Skider, MWC Member, Director, Center of Excellence for Ophthalmic Surgical Education and Training, Johns Hopkins University
  • Lynn Dillion, MWC past president and member, recognized at Friday ARCS Light luncheon as the MWC 2017-18 ARCS Light
  • Friday morning networking breakfast - a great opportunity to meet other peers participating on various ARCS committee and other chapters.

I am so excited to be a part of this dynamic wonderful group and look forward to seeing you in April.

Regards,

Patty
