Individual Spotlight
Enriching & Saving Lives
Safety is a priority for Abilities First and all the individuals it serves. Training is one of the easiest ways to remind our residents, students, and members about safety. Mariana, Trena, Laura, Kerry, and Sara - residents of Sherwood - all participated in important (and impressive) safety training!

They went through My Life, My Choice, an Abilities First training program designed to keep its attendees safer in the community and at home. They also had hands-on CPR training to help practice safety for others. They ended their training day with smiles on their faces, a pizza party, and certificate of completion!

Leadership Spotlight
Joshua Mackey, President of the FAFNY Board
In 2018, the Foundation for Abilities First NY (FAFNY) was established as a way to combat the decrease in government funding to the IDD industry and to sustain the mission of Abilities First through its own resources. One of those who led the development of FAFNY and has been an active participant in its work is Joshua Mackey. Mr. Mackey currently serves as President of the FAFNY Board and a partner in Mackey, Butts & Wise LLP (MBW).

"What interests me most about the organization is its ability to stay true to the mission, while constantly adapting.”
- FAFNY Board President Joshua Mackey
