STEM SPOTLIGHT
BIOLOGY & ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE STUDENTS FOCUSED ON WATER QUALITY
Hands-on science is alive and well in the Boise School District! STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum is offered at each school within the District. At Borah High School, Biology and Environmental Science students are investigating water quality at their school and along the Boise River. Students (pictured) are currently creating their research project using the water quality data collected on their trips by developing questions and designing a graphic visualization that will help them with their analysis. TVMSC ROBOTICS STUDENTS RECEIVE DONATION
Students at Boise School District’s Treasure Valley
Mathematics & Science Center have found external support as they utilize robots to build skills in science and engineering. The Monsanto Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer, recently awarded a one-time $5,000 grant to Team Tators Robotics (Team #2122) to support their FIRST Robotics activities and encourage local students who participate in the program. PERFORMING ARTS SPOTLIGHT
TIMBERLINE HIGH MARCHING BAND EARNS TOP HONORS
Congratulations to the Timberline High School Marching Band! On Saturday, October 27, 2018 the band competed at the District-3 Marching Band Competition on the blue at Boise State University. Competing in the 5A-Large Band Division with their 2018 program “To Build A Dream”, THS was awarded Best Percussion, Best Music, Best General Effect, and 1st Place Overall! 
This was the 4th time this season that the Timberline Band received Best Percussion and Best Music in their division. The Band also received the Mel Shelton Award, presented to the band with the highest music score of all 25 bands from across southwest Idaho. Timberline's Marching Band also brought home the traveling trophy, presented to the 1st Place Overall Sweepstakes winner – the top scoring band of the entire competition of 25 bands from all divisions (2A, 3A, 4A, 5A-Small and 5A-Large). Timberline is the first Boise School District band to bring home this award since 1991 and this is Timberline's first time winning this coveted award!  
STAFF SPOTLIGHT
Boise High School Speech and Debate Teacher Melinda Schulz has been selected as the Debate Teacher of the Year by the Idaho Speech Arts Teacher Association. 
Taft Elementary School and West Junior High School School Psychologist Cristi Zimmerman has received the Distinguished Service Award from the Idaho School Psychologist Association.
YOUR'E INVITED!
On Saturday, November 3, 2018 Whittier Elementary School will hold a Fall Bazaar from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Fall Bazaar is open to the general public and will feature a variety of vendors, a kids area, food trucks, and more! Proceeds will help support the Whittier FC Soccer Program and the 6th Grade McCall Outdoor Science School trip.
The 18th Annual Boise School District Employee-Sponsored Holiday Art & Craft Bazaar will be held Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at West Junior High School.

Donations of non-perishable food items for the Idaho Food Bank and/or donations of new, unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots will be gladly accepted. Net proceeds from this event will be donated to the Idaho Food Bank Back Pack Program for Boise School District students. The Back Pack Program provides food for at-risk students when school is not in session over weekends and school breaks.
