Rev. Frederick Knuckles
Tell us about yourself and how you are involved with the Cleveland Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (CADRC)?
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, I am married to Lady Bregina Knuckles, a noted singer and Minister and together we parent four children.
I have been in the Ministry for forty-three years and served in the social service field in various management positions for over thirty years. For twenty-eight years I have served as Sr. Pastor of the New Fellowship Baptist Church of Cleveland, Ohio and Moderator of the Progressive Baptist Association Cleveland and Vicinity for ten years, and I serve as the chief visionary for its corporate affiliates.
In my role as Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program Manager for the Cleveland Alzheimer's Association, I focus on engaging the Hispanic community in Lorain County and African American communities in Cuyahoga & Summit Counties. Building relationships and partnerships to foster trust and connections to better serve the families touched by Alzheimer’s and all other dementia is my goal and hope in these communities.

CADRC Attended the Alzheimer's Association 'A Celebration of Hope' Gala in Downtown Cleveland
The Alzheimer’s Association’s A Celebration of Hope Gala was held at the Hilton in Downtown Cleveland on May 4, 2023 and a number of CADRC and CBH personnel were in attendance. Funds were raised in a silent auction and in a live auction during the gala, all to benefit the important work of the Alzheimer’s Association. Prizes such as Guardian box seats and Lizzo tickets were some of the auctioned items. We were all very excited to be part of the Gala and help raise money for such a worthy cause.
The CADRC and CCF’s CBH work closely with the Alzheimer’s Association to help raise money for all the research they do and support they provide to patients and caregivers. We continue to raise money as well for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s which is also sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association and will happen at the Cleveland Zoo on October 21, 2023. Are you Interested in Participating in Research at the CADRC?
Researchers from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland Clinic, MetroHealth, University Hospitals and the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center have joined together to form the Cleveland Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (CADRC). The CADRC is one of 33 centers funded by the National Institutes on Aging. The center aims to study the different forms of dementia in the hope that learning more about the disease can lead to new forms of treating and eventually curing Alzheimer's and related disorders. Volunteers are critical to the research process and the center studies both people with Alzheimer’s disease and healthy individuals who are at risk for developing dementia. we This study is most interested in including volunteers who have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, mild cognitive impairment, Lewy Body Dementia, or Atypical dementia.

Ginn Academy Health and Wellness Fair
May 4, 2023 The CADRC MAB Members had the pleasure of teaching the students and staff about the importance of activating their brains and reducing the risk factors of brain neurological disease at an early age.
The CADRC MAB members representing the center at the event were Kellee Bacote, Devon Jones, Carlos Lewis-Miller, and Steven Slaughter.

Purple Sunday
April 30, 2023 Rev. Knuckles gave Kellee Bacote the mic and she was in heaven! There were a great number of interested study participants from the church's congregation. Purple Sunday was a great introduction and exposure to the CADRC and parishioners welcome the opportunity with open arm.

Minority Men's Health Fair at Cleveland Heights Medical Center:
April 27,2023 The Cleveland Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (CADRC) attended the Minority Men's Health Fair. Outreach and Recruitment Engagement Core attended this recruitment event at three locations: Metrohealth Main Campus in the Speciality Pavillion, Metrohealth Ohio City Medical Clinic and at Metrohealth Severence Center. We had several staff members at each location and we provided information on CADRC and provided giveaways. This outreach event provided us with the chance to connect with minority men who might not have heard about the CADRC, in turn providing them with the opportunity to get involved in the research study.
Representing the CADRC were MAB members, Heidi Barham, Devon Jones, Steven Slaughter, and Angelia Vannoy, along with OREC members, Kellee Bacote, Edna Fuentes-Casiano, Dr. Carolyn Still, and Jacki Whitlow..

Alzheimer's Association Summit at Mt. Zion Baptist Church
April 14, 2023 Hosted by MAB Member Reverend Fred Knuckles, the summit featured a special lecture by Beverly M. Berry - Alzheimer's Association Senior Director, DEI Engagement. The health systems expert panel consisted of: Dr. Charles S. Modlin (MetroHealth Systems), Dr. Muralidhar Pallaki (VA Medical Center), Dr. Fred Harris (CCF), and Dr. Alan Lerner (UH). In addition, the CADRC hosted a resource table at this event.
The CADRC Outreach team was represented by Kellee Bacote, Edna Fuentes-Casiano, Susie Sami, Jacki Whitlow, and Gordon Williams.

Cleveland Orchestra Wellness Fair:
April 13, 2023 The Cleveland Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (CADRC) attended the Wellness Fair where CADRC OREC leader, Dr. Martha Sajatovic (UH/CWRU), gave a special lecture on the effects of stress and the brain at the Wellness Fair followed by a panelist discussion answering questions about AD and related dementias.
Moderator: Kellee Bacote and Panelists: Director of the CADRC - Dr. James Leverenz (CCF), Dr. Kasia Rothenburg (CCF), and Director of UH Brain Health & Memory Center - Dr. Charles Duffy. In addition, the CADRC hosted a resource table at this event. Representing the CADRC at the resource table were Kellee Bacote, Dominique Bethly, Edna Fuentes-Casiano, Sarah Hibbert, Lyndsi Powell, and Jacki Whitlow.

Walk to End Alzheimer's

Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide, the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is the world's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
The CADRC Team will be participating at events in the Northeast Ohio area in 2023. The Walks are a family friendly event! After each Walk, participates are welcome to stay to visit local vendors and participate in the event’s activities.
