5th Grade Silhouette Paintings in Art Class
Last week the 5th graders completed their masterpieces in art class. They did an excellent job creating Silhouette Landscapes with reflections with Mrs. Peterson. Beautiful job 5th Grade!
Letters of Kindness
In Mrs. Richardson's 4th grade class, the students wrote letters to mail their middle school buddies in Mrs. Lewis’ 8th grade class for Kindness Week. They worked so hard on detailed, friendly letters and poems! Way to go 4th grade!
Random Acts of Kindness Week!

This week is Random Acts of Kindness Week! This week is dedicated to celebrating the power of kindness. It’s an opportunity for our community to focus on connecting through kind acts and kind words. Let’s all focus on intentionally practicing kindness!

Throughout the week, be sure to ask your student(s) about what they’ve learned! Some of the highlights we have planned are:
For our K-4 students:
  • Each day of the week, classes will have different “kindness missions” that they are encouraged to complete.
  • K-4 students will also be given kindness punch cards to try to complete. Get caught being kind, and get your card punched! Students who complete their card will receive a pizza coupon.

For our 5-8th students:
  • Our teachers will be participating in the school’s talent show as a special shoutout to their students. The talent show will be posted on the schools YouTube channel so be on the lookout for the link to that.
  • 5-8th students also have the opportunity to win some awesome prizes by participating in the Random Acts of Kindness contest and submitting a digital entry to Ms. Yamauchi. Find more details here.

Our 1st-4th grade students will also be mailing letters with kind words of encouragement to our middle school students.
CCA's Peer Helpers have produced a kindness commercial and slide show that will be given to teachers to show to their homerooms.
If you’re interested in sprinkling in some intentional kindness at home, here’s a calendar for the whole year here: https://www.randomactsofkindness.org
YETI Healthy Heart Challenge!

Please join Ms. Rutz and CCA students in taking the YETI Healthy Heart Challenge! This is a fun way to share the knowledge of workouts and the effects on your heart. Each student that chooses to participate is welcome to print this PDF. Please encourage your student to reach 1000 jumps, work hard, and HAVE FUN! Each student has the choice to turn the worksheet back into Ms. Rutz before February 25. The students that choose to turn it in, will have the opportunity to have it posted for all to see! If you have any questions please contact Ms. Rutz at krutz@cherrycreekacademy.org.

Cherry Creek Academy Presents:
100% Virtual Multicultural Festival 2021
Event Date: Friday, April 16th 5:30pm – 9pm
The Multicultural Festival is an event that displays the different cultures of the world. And what better way to achieve this than with the help of the families here at CCA that have a heritage from different countries. This event provides an opportunity for kids and adults to experience and learn about the food, costumes, environment, arts, music, ways of life, etc. of the various cultures that are represented.
Students will pick up their travel bag with their passports and a souvenir from each country being represented. The event will be broadcasted and there will be chances to win prizes for filling out your passport. Stay tuned for the link
WE NEED COUNTRY REPRESENTATION!
Country leads/co-leads will double their volunteer hours!
Country Representative: Each country will be given 15 minutes to present their country in a video format. Each country will be given a minimum of $75 depending on the need. We will assist in video editing if needed. During this video, each country will need to touch on three points.
Teach us something about the country
Entertainment – ex: music, performance, art, craft
Must have something to put in the travel bag – ex: flag, keychain, something that represents the country
BE CREATIVE! BE CREATIVE! BE CREATIVE!
Submissions for representatives due: February 25th, 2021

WANT TO PERFORM BETWEEN PRESENTATIONS?
Before each country presentation we will have cultural performances.
It is not a talent show. If any of the kids or adults would like to sing, dance, or play an instrument related to the country, then this is the avenue to do so. It is ok to invite performers from outside too. If you would like to present a cultural performance, please email PTOmcf@cherrycreekacademy.org.

Food for Purchase: Let’s support our CCA Family-Owned Restaurants during the Multicultural Performance. We will be offering coupons for restaurants, snacks packs, grab and go’s or head to one of the restaurants to watch the performances!
Nutrition Services is offering meals for in person and remote students for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year. Students at school can receive their meals on campus. For more information, click here.

Even though all breakfast and lunch meals are free this entire school year for all students, thanks to Federal Funds given to public schools, each public school still receives additional funds to support student learning based on the number of families who qualify for Free or Reduced meals so we encourage all families to fill out the free or reduced-price meal application. To read additional information about incomes that qualify for the Federal free and reduced meal program, please click on the link. To complete the online application, please click on this link.
Safety and Mask Reminder

As we are settling back in, we wanted to send a friendly reminder to our families about wearing masks when you are near CCA. We are asking that when you are waiting outside of CCA or walking across the crosswalk that you have a mask on. We want to do everything in our power to remain in person and that means taking every health/safety precaution that we can. We want to thank you for your partnership during this unique time and for your commitment to a safe and healthy school.

A Note From Nurse Jayne:

With K-4 back in person, we want to reiterate how extremely important it is to keep your child home if they are ill. Please notify Nurse Jayne at jbauer@cherrycreekacademy.org if your child has a positive COVID test or if your child has been exposed to someone with a positive COVID test so that we can take the appropriate steps to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Advancing Colorado’s health and protecting the places we live, learn, work and play□

Dear parents/guardians of students in Colorado kindergarten – 12th grade schools for the 2021-22 school year:
We know you’re thinking of all the things you need to do to make sure your student is ready for school. Getting vaccinated is an important part of their school readiness and keeps children from catching and spreading diseases that can make them sick. We wish you and your student a healthy school year!

Required and recommended vaccines
  • Colorado law requires students who attend a public, private, or parochial kindergarten - 12th grade school to be vaccinated against many of the diseases vaccines can prevent, unless a certificate of exemption is filed. For more information, visit cdphe.colorado.gov/schoolrequiredvaccines. Your student must be vaccinated against:
o Diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTaP, DTP, Tdap)
o Hepatitis B (HepB)
o Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)
o Polio (IPV)
o Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Colorado follows recommendations set by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices. Students entering kindergarten must receive their final doses of DTaP, IPV, MMR and varicella. Students entering 6th grade must receive one dose of Tdap vaccine, even if they are under 11 years of age. You can view recommended vaccine schedules at
cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/parents-adults/resources-parents.html.
  • Vaccines are recommended for hepatitis A, influenza, meningococcal disease and human papillomavirus, but are not required.

Exclusion from school
  • Your student may be excluded from school if your school does not have an up-to-date vaccine record, certificate of exemption, or in-process plan for your student on file.
  • If someone gets sick with a vaccine-preventable disease or there is an outbreak at your student’s school and your student has not received the vaccine for that disease, they may be excluded from school activities. That could mean lost learning time for them and lost work and wages for you. For example, if your student has not received a MMR vaccine, they may be excluded from school for 21 days after someone gets sick with measles.

Have questions?
  • You may want to talk to a healthcare provider licensed to give vaccines or your local public health agency about which vaccines your student needs or if you have questions. You can read about the safety and importance of vaccines at SpreadTheVaxFacts.com, ImmunizeForGood.com, and cdphe.colorado.gov/immunization-education.

Paying for vaccinations
  • If you need help finding free or low-cost vaccines and providers who give them, go to COVax4Kids.org, contact your local public health agency, or call the state health department’s Family Health Line at 1-303-692-2229 or 1-800-688-7777. You can find your local public health agency at cdphe.colorado.gov/find-your-local-public-health-agency.

Vaccination records
  • Please take your student’s updated vaccine record to school every time they receive a vaccine.
  • Need to find your student’s vaccine record? It may be available from the Colorado Immunization Information System. Visit COVaxRecords.org for more information.

Exemptions
  • If your student cannot get vaccines because of medical reasons, you must submit a Certificate of Medical Exemption to your school, signed by a health care provider licensed to give vaccines. You only need to submit this certificate once, unless your student’s information or school changes. You can get the form at cdphe.colorado.gov/vaccine-exemptions.
  • If you choose not to have your student vaccinated according to the current recommended schedule because of personal belief or religious reasons, you must submit a Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption to your school.
Nonmedical exemptions must be submitted annually at every new school year (July 1 through June 30th of the following year). There are two ways to file a nonmedical exemption.
File the Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption WITH a signature from an immunizing provider, OR
File the Certificate of Nonmedical Exemption received upon the completion of our online education module.

Downloadable certificates and our online education module are available at
cdphe.colorado.gov/vaccine-exemptions
