Cassy Schilter
"FFA helped me grow in confidence in skill areas like teamwork and prepared public speaking. It has given me more confidence overall."


Cassy grew up on a dairy farm. Dairy farming is in her blood, so to speak. She is the Chehalis Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter president and is an award-winning member. After countless FFA competitions, growth personally, and an evident passion for agriculture, she knew that she didn’t want to return to the farm after high school. 

“I want to help promote the dairy industry in a positive way to consumers and bridge the gap that is evident between the consumer and the farmer. This idea got me started on the path into communications, which is what I’ll be studying next year at Rocky Mountain College.”

Isaac Morris
"I am looking forward to making a good living. I like working, and I like seeing the outcome of my work."
Isaac Morris, Senior at W.F. West and Chehalis FFA Chapter Vice President, is quick to share the positive outcomes of the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program at school. Growing up raising pigs and participating in 4-H, he recognizes the importance those experiences had on him.

After 4-H, Isaac joined FFA. This proved to be a pivotal moment for him, recognizing that it was much more than just a “next step.” FFA has a lot of technical, team-building, and leadership aspects that inspired him.

Through the CTE programs at W.F. West Isaac was exposed to other trades that piqued his interest, especially the more technical-related fields. He is currently enrolled at Bates Technical College and wants to become an electrician. 
Committee Updates
The CTE General Advisory Council met on May 11 for their final meeting of the school year. CTE Director Rick Goble demonstrated a new data dashboard from NuMetrics which will help students and staff make career and college decisions based on current labor market data, career training, wages, and employment opportunities in Lewis county and beyond. The Leonard Trust Committee met on May 26 for their final meeting of the school year. WFW CTE teacher (photography, yearbook, and entrepreneurship) presented an overview for a proposed pop-up store which would give Bearcats the chance to engage with customers and sell their products - critical components of production, marketing, sales, and customer service.
