Did you know that originally the Presidency of St. Anne’s G.C. was for life?
The first three holders were J.P. Cullen (1921-1926), J.W. Mannix (1927-1940) and T.P.Waller (1941-1947).
The next holder, J. Downey, after fourteen years as President brought up the possibility of standing down so the other members of the club could be given the honour. This was agreed and he was succeeded by J.D.Tighe who held office from 1965 until 1974.
It was then decided at an A.G.M to make the Presidency a three year position and J.E.Lawless took office on that basis. Later on, in the 80’s, it was shortened further to two years when J.A.Flanagan took office in 1987.
The first female President, Therese McCormack, took office in 2020.
