Volume 12 | September 26th 2021
Greetings!

This month has seen the long-awaited opening of the Centenary Room take place. I hope that over the coming weeks and months you will take some time to visit it and see the wonderful history of golf over the past 100 years.

We also had the Centenary Challenge which took place from the 7th – 10th September (full details below). We had teams travel from the USA, Holland and Germany as well as teams from other clubs around Ireland and of course some St Anne’s members.

We now turn our attention to our next BIG EVENT – our Centenary Ball on the 20th November in Clontarf Castle. Please SAVE THE DATE in your diary. Details of ticket sales will be sent out soon. This event will be the final event to celebrate our Centenary Year and we are delighted that it will be able to take place once restrictions have been lifted on the 22nd October. We look forward to seeing you there.

Enjoy your golf and keep well,

Audrey Headon
Centenary Coordinator
CENTENARY ROOM OFFICIAL OPENING
We are delighted to announce that our Centenary Room is now officially open. The vision for this room was not just to showcase St. Anne’s history but also to highlight the evolution and development of the game of golf and golf equipment down through the last century.

This beautifully curated collection includes St. Anne’s memorabilia and a collection of early golf clubs and golf balls along with lots of other fascinating bits and pieces of golf history.

Our time line for the first 75 years of the club has been moved into the Centenary Room and another glass panel added to include our last 25 years.

Special mention has to go to Bredan Plunkett who worked on all of these displays during the Covid lockdowns. He has painstakingly restored many of these items and has shown himself to be a wonderful craftsman. We extend our sincere gratitude to Brendan for his dedication to the task he was given and also for his generosity in donating many items in the display from his own private collection. Thanks also to Patricia Mc Grath who worked closely with Brendan on this project and who completed the timeline, bringing our club history right up to date.

Finally, thanks also to our Past Captains who very kindly sponsored the beautiful large display cabinet and to all the members who donated items for the Centenary Room.
We have no doubt that this room will bring great pleasure to those that view it.

CENTENARY REFLECTIONS IN THE COMPANY OF PAT AND TREVOR MILLS
This month we are delighted to hear from a well-known husband and wife duo and long-time members Trevor and Pat Mills.

Our thanks to Matthew Walsh for editing this video.

THE CENTENARY CHALLENGE
The Centenary Challenge took place over four days and three courses from the 7th -10th Sep.

Day one of the team competition took place in Portmarnock Links, day two was in St. Anne’s, day three was in Co Louth Golf Club (Baltray) and the final day we were back in St. Anne’s.

We were blessed with the weather and with the exception of some heavy sea mist on day one golfers were treated to lovely sunshine and modest breezes, ideal golfing conditions. We were delighted to hear many of our visiting teams comment on how good our greens were, which is a great credit to our Greens staff and we send our thanks to them for the great condition of our course.
Thanks also to our prize sponsors, Motocaddy, TaylorMade, Srixon, Titleist, Glenmuir 1891, Swing Out Sister, Callaway and Duck Hock.

The winning team (pictured receiving their prizes from President Therese and Ladies Captain, Julie) were from Naas GC. They took the lead on day one and held onto it by producing a fantastic score of 374 points in a format that had two scores to count on each hole over the 4 days.

THOMAS AND DANIELLA SCHMIDT FROM LUBECK-TRAVEMUNDER GOLF CLUB VISIT ST. ANNE’S G.C.
Lubeck-Travemunder Golf Club in Germany are also celebrating their Centenary this year. As part of their celebrations, they ran a raffle and the prize was a place in our Centenary Tournament. Thomas Schmidt was the lucky winner and he and his wife Daniella visited Ireland for the first time and enjoyed themselves immensely.

They have promised to return to see us again soon.
A copy of our Centenary Book was presented to them to bring back to their Club President.
