Greetings!

As we begin the countdown to Christmas it is lovely to see our Clubhouse so beautifully decorated by members of the Social Committee and House Committee and we extend our thanks to them for doing such a great job.
This month saw our Centenary Captain Leo “George” Devitt host his Captains Dinner and a great night was had by all who attended. Unfortunately, our Centenary Lady Captains dinner was cancelled as a result of the rising number of Covid19, but no doubt, when the time is appropriate, and in the true Spirit of St. Anne’s, the ladies will help to celebrate a wonderful Centenary year of golf with our Centenary Lady Captain Julie Merrey.
Enjoy your golf and keep well,

Audrey Headon
Centenary Coordinator.
A new addition to the balcony - Christmas lights.
There's a much more festive feel to the balcony area now
CENTENARY REFLECTIONS IN THE COMPANY OF MAURA OPPERMANN MOORE AND HER SON’S MARK AND JOHN

This month we are delighted to have a chat with Past Lady Captain Maura Oppermann Moore and her son’s Mark and John. Maura was Lady Captain in 2003, the year our new clubhouse was officially opened.

Our thanks for Matthew Walsh for editing this video

NEW PAINTING OF THE OLD CLUBHOUSE.
This is believed to be the only picture in existence of the old clubhouse in its entirety.

It was taken as an afterthought by the club’s secretary manager Jack Kennedy after it had been abandoned and we had moved to the new clubhouse in 1974. He hung it in his office as a memory of things past.

As can be seen dereliction was already setting in and it wasn’t long before it was burned to the ground.

In order o preserve our club’s history, we are delighted to let you know that we recently had this photograph painted by Tetyana Tsaryk (the same artist that did the other clubhouse paintings). It will shortly be hung in the dining room alongside the other 3 paintings.
SOME CLUB TRIVIA
Did you know that originally the Presidency of St. Anne’s G.C. was for life?

The first three holders were J.P. Cullen (1921-1926), J.W. Mannix (1927-1940) and T.P.Waller (1941-1947).
The next holder, J. Downey, after fourteen years as President brought up the possibility of standing down so the other members of the club could be given the honour. This was agreed and he was succeeded by J.D.Tighe who held office from 1965 until 1974.
It was then decided at an A.G.M to make the Presidency a three year position and J.E.Lawless took office on that basis. Later on, in the 80’s, it was shortened further to two years when J.A.Flanagan took office in 1987.
The first female President, Therese McCormack, took office in 2020.
