Volume 8 | May 30th 2021
Greetings!

It was great to see the return of competitive golf last week and to see so many people participate in the weekly competitions. I’m sure that our founding fathers could never have imagined that 121 women would take part in competition golf on Tuesday 22nd May whilst 196 men participated on Wednesday. What an amazing turnout this was, a true testament to the “Sprit of St. Anne’s” that prevails 100 years on.

Enjoy your golf and keep well.

CENTENARY REFLECTIONS IN THE COMPANY OF OF OUR JUVENILE CAPTAINS EMMA MACHUGH AND DANIEL MURRAY
We are delighted to hear from our two Juvenile Captains this month. Our Juvenile members are the future of our club and it’s wonderful to hear their positive thoughts about the game of golf and our beloved St. Anne’s G.C. Thank you to both Emma and Daniel for making their videos and to Matthew Walsh for editing.

CENTENARY MESSAGES FROM CIAN HEALY AND
ACTOR JOHN C. MCGINLEY
Rugby legend Cian Healy and Hollywood star John C. McGinley are big fans of our beloved Club and took some time out of their busy schedules to send special messages congratulating St. Anne's on its milestone year. A big thank you to both and we hope to see them on the links again in the near future!
Leinster, Ireland and former British and Irish Lions rugby legend Cian Healy sends St. Anne's members his best wishes for the Centenary Year.
John C. McGinley, renowned actor noted for his roles in Scrubs, Platoon, Wall Street and many many others, shares his fond memories of playing St. Anne's during his visits to Ireland.
ST. ANNE’S FIRST MAJOR VICTORY
This is a picture of the winning Barton Cup team in 1948. It was the first major win for St. Anne’s G.C. The Cup was finally won in a home and away match against Sutton.
HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW THE 1920’S?
It may be a century since St. Anne's was incepted but our founding fathers would surely find some similarities in today's Ireland to the Ireland they knew then. A global pandemic and economic uncertainty have a familiar feel to them!

How much do you know about the 1920s when our Club was in its infancy? Try your luck on this quiz by clicking on the link below:
CENTENARY BAG TAGS
The Centenary Ambassadors Team and the Social Committee were busy this week distributing our lovely new Centenary Bag Tags. Thanks to everyone who helped out despite the sometimes-inclement weather (apologies to anyone who got a wet envelope!).

FROM THE IRISH TIMES ARCHIVES 30TH MAY 1921
This advertisement appeared in the Irish Times this day 100 years ago. Coincidently one of our founding fathers Marmaduke Devitt was employed as a maker and repairer of golf clubs, fishing rods etc in J W Elvery & Co and worked in their Lr. Sackville Street branch (now known as O’Connell Street) selling and mending golf clubs and fishing rods.

It was through his work here that he met Tussy Murray and Dudley Stuart and their friendship developed and as the saying goes “the rest is history”.
WHO SAYS THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS LUCK IN GOLF?
