Volume 13 | October 31st 2021
Greetings!

As we draw to the end of yet another month it is great to be able to look back on all of the golfing events that were successfully run during this, our Centenary year.

As you know, we had planned to have our Centenary Ball on the 20th November in Clontarf Castle but in light of the growing number of positive cases it was felt that such an event, either there, or in our clubhouse could possibly jeopardise the safety of our members and staff so it was with a heavy heart that the decision was taken not to proceed with this event.

As we look forward to the next few weeks, we still have lots to celebrate with both Captain Leo’s and Lady Captain Julie’s Dinners. I hope that those of you who are attending these events have a wonderful night.

Enjoy your golf and keep well,
Audrey Headon
Centenary Coordinator.
CENTENARY REFLECTIONS IN THE COMPANY OF EDDIE LAWLESS
This month we are delighted to have a chat with Eddie Lawless. Eddie is a Past Captain and Trustee of St. Anne’s G.C.

We also had a chance to meet his lovely wife Mavis, a former member herself, who lots of you will know well from the many social functions she attended in St. Anne’s over the years.

NEW WARM UP CHIPPING GREEN
We are delighted to inform our members that as a result of some donations we are able to proceed with a new chipping area and green, in this our Centenary Year.

Members are acutely aware of the need to improve our chipping warm up area. In consultation with our Professional Bill, Head Greenkeeper Stephen, Manager Roger and Links Officer Doreen a plan of works was agreed. The agronomy will be under the guidance of STRI. It is hoped that work will commence on this project in December.

The Centenary Committee, and all of the membership look forward to this exciting project. We’ll have no excuses now for poor chips and roll on a pennant!!

Centenary Wins

St. Anne’s G.C. win the John Downey Cup and The Tain Trophy
Huge Congratulations to our ladies and gents who had two great wins during our Centenary Year.
Our Ladies defeated Howth in the annual Táin competition. The Táin competition is a local inter-club competition set up in 1978 by the then St Anne’s Lady Captain, Maime White and the Howth’s Lady Captain, Monica Cagney.

The Táin competition alternates between the two clubs’ golf courses each year and this year it was played in St Anne’s.

Our Men also had a great win recently when they defeated The Royal Dublin in the annual John Downey competition. This long-standing competition also alternates between the two clubs’ golf courses each year and as with The Tain, this year it was held in St. Anne’s.

It was wonderful to be able to showcase our course to these two great local clubs during our Centenary Year.
