Banner Thunderbird Opens Level 1 Trauma Center
Banner Thunderbird Medical Center has officially opened the state’s newest Level I Trauma Center, extending for the first time ever the highest level of emergency care available to our greater community. Designation as an Arizona Level I Trauma Center means the hospital can provide total care for every aspect of injury, greatly reducing the need to transfer them outside the area for life-saving treatment. This new trauma center is of significant value to our first responders who work hard to provide the best care to those in emergency situations each and every day. Examples of injuries a Level I can treat include traumatic car crash injuries, gunshot victims, stab wounds and traumatic brain injuries. The Level I Trauma Center officially launched on October 3. Banner Thunderbird is the West Valley’s largest and busiest hospital with 555 inpatient beds for children and adults and on average they serve 460 patients a day. The addition of the Level I Trauma Center further demonstrates that Glendale has the highest quality of care available for our residents and the entire region.
