Business Resources
Saco's Planning & Development Department is committed to helping businesses during this unprecedented time. Visit our COVID-19 Business Resources page for an up-to-date list of local, regional, state, and federal resources for businesses and employees.

The  Biddeford+Saco Region's Buy Local Campaign  offers many helpful resources and guides for community members and businesses on their website. You can check out their current list of local restaurants that are providing service for area residents, view state resources available to our business community, and learn more about the Pay it Forward/Pay it Back campaign.
Community Resources
On this page, you can find information regarding transit schedule changes for bus and train service, resources for our community members experiencing food insecurity and financial hardship, and information about shopping hours for at-risk individuals and take-out food options.
Transfer Station Update
The Saco Transfer Station will be re-opening Tuesday, March 31st. There will be limited hours until further notice. Hours of operation will be Tuesday through Friday 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Proof of Residency will be required to include an active Saco mailing address for billing purposes. We ask that when you go to the Transfer Station, that you practice "Social Distancing" - maintaining 6 ft between yourselves and our staff, as well as from other residents. We will be limiting access to 10 vehicles at a time. Wait times may be longer than normal. Thank you for your patience as we navigate through this process.
Social Distancing in Nature
The Saco Parks and Recreation Department does not recommend using playgrounds at this time due to the fact they are not manually or chemically sterilized. Thank you for your cooperation. Parks & trails remain open for use with proper social distancing.

For those of you looking for information about local trails as well as safety recommendations for trail use, here are some great resources:

Planning Board Meetings
The Planning & Development Department and Planning Board are moving their operations online. The Planning Board will host its regularly scheduled April 7 th meeting remotely, on Zoom. Please refer to our agendas page and our Planning Board page for details about how to attend and participate in remote Board meetings.
Flushing Wipes Clogs Pipes
Our Water Resource Recovery Department would like to remind you that wipes belong in the trash, not the toilet. Our sewer system and treatment plant were not designed to handle wipes, and these products labeled as "flushable" can clog pipes and pumps when flushed down the toilet. Many homeowners have experienced plumbing problems because of wipes, so you may have expensive maintenance issues at home if you flush them.

Unless it is toilet paper, it should not be flushed, even if a product says it is “flushable." Trust us, wipes can cause a lot of problems if they are flushed down the toilet.
Virtual City Council Meetings
Starting March 30, 2020, the Saco City Council will be holding their meetings digitally to follow social distancing guidelines.

With the use of Zoom to host our virtual meetings, we now offer five different ways to participate. You can find all of these options on our website at  sacomaine.org/watchmeetings . Please refer to this page for the most up-to-date information on our remote meeting procedure. We have worked hard to make these meetings as accessible as possible.

Be on the lookout for Facebook events for each Council Meeting. The March 30 meeting event is here:  Saco City Council Meeting - March 30, 2020, 6:30 PM
With the shift to remote meetings, we have modified how we receive public comments. Currently, the Saco City Council is accepting written public comment in place of in-person participation. Written public comments must be e-mailed to City Administrator Bryan Kaenrath at [email protected], or mailed to Public Comment 300 Main St. Saco, ME 04072. Public Comment received by 5:00 PM on the date of the Council meeting will be provided to the City Council in advance of the meeting and will become a part of the permanent record of the meetings. If e-mailing, please note “Public Comment” and the meeting date in the Subject field. This process is for the public comment portion of the agenda and we are exploring alternate options for public hearings.

If you experience any difficulty participating in these meetings, please email [email protected].
Please note: Municipal facilities will be closed to the public until further notice. City Hall staff will be available to assist you via phone or email on Monday - Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM. We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we implement these changes to follow best practices for the health and safety of our community members and employees.
We are always looking for ways to improve communication with our community members. As always, if there is anything we can do to better communicate information, please let us know by emailing [email protected]. Be sure to check out our Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube pages using the buttons below. You can also see news and updates on the City of Saco website at www.sacomaine.org.
