Program Spotlight: HSI STEM Enhancing Math CATS Services

According to Illona Webber, Coordinator of Microcomputer Lab II, "Additional funding from the HSI-STEM grant has greatly impacted services in Math CATS. Because of this, we have been able to double the capacity of hired tutors. This both increases the number of student employee jobs available on campus but also allows Math CATS tutors to spend the quality time needed with each client that uses our service. We are able to hire Bobcats from a wide range of majors allowing us to really show our clients that math is approachable by everyone. Instilling the confidence in a students’ abilities is paramount to success in a class and having a tutor from the same (or similar major) as the client accomplishes this.
