Student Spotlight: Student Employee Building Transferable Skills

Emily Morales-Avila has worked as a student employee with the DHSI office for two years. She started working at DHSI as the first student employee hired and has remained since then. Emily has worked on countless projects including mass data entry, events management, and most recently as the content developer for "La Estrella" newsletter. "I have been very fortunate to professionally and personally develop myself and have great mentors for the last two years at this job. This semester I am grateful to hone my transferable skills by helping develop the DHSI newsletter", says Emily.

Emily is working on her B.S. in Family & Consumer Science (T.Cert. 6-12) and is expected to graduate in May 2020. She would like to teach career and technical education courses in Middle School at Comal ISD, and in the future, she would like to gain more experience in at-risk and extension programs.
