End of Year T-shirts - Order by Friday, May 7!

Each year our PTO provides activities and enrichment for our students, teachers, and their families. Those activities (i.e. Teacher Appreciation & Treats, PTO events such as the Family Game/Movie Night, and Daddy/Daughter & Mother/Son events, and Field Day) are funded annually by the PTO through the funds raised at DolphinFest, our annual carnival & silent auction.

This year, due to pandemic restrictions governing gatherings and the challenges procuring external auction items, our typical DolphinFest simply wasn't feasible. While we searched for every fundraising option, it became evident that the best option available was hosting a Family Donation Drive.

We know it’s the end of the year and we are all winding down and getting ready for summer, but this drive will ensure that we are prepared and ready to support our school community full speed ahead in the Fall. We’ve had tremendous success with Family Donation Drives in the past and know we can do it again!

All donations of any amount are welcome! You may also purchase our End of Year T-shirt to commemorate such a special year! T-shirt orders are due by Friday, May 7th, and will be distributed the following week!

Field Day

We are so excited for our students to participate in Field Day this year! It’s always an unforgettable favorite for our Dogwood Dolphins. This year will look a little different from years past, with specialists and assistants as our lane volunteers and our PTO assisting with tent set up and equipment.

Rain dates are Thursday, May 13 for Field Days 1:00-3:30 PM and Friday, May 14 for Field Days 9:30 AM-12:00 PM. Decisions to postpone sessions will be made by 9:00 AM for the morning sessions and 12:30 PM for the afternoon sessions.

Room Parents have sent detailed emails out with your class color for Field Day and a sign-up genius of supplies needed. Required items for your class include:

-rolling cooler of water bottles (2 bottles per student)

-a large pump hand sanitizer

Optional items include:

-a pennant banner with your teacher’s name

-eye black stickers

-ribbons to tie up sleeves of the girls’ shirts

-Pom-poms

-bandanas

Your child should wear his/her class T-shirt on Tug-of-War day (Friday, May 7th) as well as on Field Day.

On Field Day, your child should wear sunscreen to school. Bring a towel to sit on. Bring a large ziploc with sunscreen and a frozen washcloth if it's hot.

We are excited that parents will be able to attend Field Day! We will have a parent cheering section/viewing area on the north side of the field (classes will be set on the south side). Parents are asked to arrive from Dogwood Rd between the fire station and the playground to a check-in area, and then to remain in the parent viewing area for the entire event. All attendees will be required to check-in and wear a mask. No siblings will be allowed to attend (so make your arrangements now!) We look forward to sharing this special and fun day with you!

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sidewalk Poetry Contest

In collaboration with the Germantown Community Library, and Germantown Parks & Recreation, the Germantown Public Art Commission announces Word Travels, an annual sidewalk poetry contest. New, aspiring or professional writers of any age, living or working in Germantown, can submit a poem or song lyric of up to 150 words. Poems should be unique and must not use copyrighted materials. The inaugural contest theme is Nature.

A selection committee made up of literary professionals, library staff, and community representatives will select five finalists and three semifinalists. Winners will receive a small monetary award and their poems will be installed on sidewalks in city parks and along trail systems starting in the summer of 2021.

This project creates a unique opportunity for citizens of Germantown to participate in the city’s new public art program through a project that celebrates public spaces and the literary arts.
