Dogwood Gratitude Challenge

You’ve probably seen our teachers and staff participating in the gratitude challenge on social media and we love it so much, we want to participate too! It is that time of year to pause and think about what we are truly thankful for. We’d like to challenge you to post about your gratitude for the things and people at Dogwood that make our community so special. Veterans Day

We cannot wait to celebrate our Veterans on Wednesday, November 11 at 10:00am. While our program will be different this year, we will still be celebrating with a drive-thru parade! Please let us know if you and/or a relative are a Veteran and will be attending our drive-thru parade.

The Dogwood catalog can be found here and it is on the DES symbaloo under "Library Search."


Did you know your child can take AR tests from home, 7 days a week? Here is a short instructional video on the process. This is the link to the AR site. You cannot do a google search for AR; our site is specific to our school. Students have a unique username and password. If your child does not know theirs, please email the school librarian, Mrs. McIntyre.

Yearbook

Yearbooks are on sale now! Order yours today through My School Bucks. Yearbooks cost $35 and the purchase deadline is Friday, February 26th.


A 1/4 page fifth grade ad or a 1/2 page business ad are $25. The purchase deadline for ads is Friday, December 18th. Purchase of an ad does NOT mean you have purchased a yearbook. They are two separate purchases.

The yearbook staff needs your help! If you have pictures from Game Night, Walk/Bike to School Day, or any themed days, please email them to the yearbook staff. Please be sure to include the grade, teacher's name, and event in the email.

GMSD ANNOUNCEMENTS

Online Portal closes TOMORROW


The online portal for families to select virtual or in-person learning for the second semester opened on October 26th and will close tomorrow, November 9th.


We ask that all families complete the survey, whether they are electing to stay the same or choosing the default.


Superintendent Manuel shared some additional information to help families make a decision. With a run-time of approximately 12 minutes, Superintendent Manuel answers questions and goes into detail about the upcoming school choice window.

Falcon Footlights

Falcon Footlights Booster Club would like to invite FES, DES, FHES and HMS students to audition for our 2020/2021 production of the Broadway Jr Musical Revue! Auditions this year will be taking place at Grace Evangelical Church across from Houston High School on November 17th and 19th from 4-7 PM. Safety and the health of our students is very important to us, so we will be limiting the number of people inside the building for auditions. We ask that parents wait in the car during your child's audition time. Please follow the steps below:


1. Please use the Sign up Genius Link to audition for the Broadway Jr. Musical Revue. 

2. Download and print the Audition Form and bring with you to your Audition. (We can not accept your audition without a completed form.)

3. Go to the Music page and prepare ONE song for your audition.*

4. Go to the Choreography page to watch and learn the dance and be ready to perform for your audition.

5. If you would like to audition for host or emcee please be prepared to recite the dialogue listed on the website.


*You are welcome to sing a different song of your choosing. If so, you must bring your own accompaniment track.

** If you are unable to audition in person, please email us for Virtual Audition information.

GMC PTO Essay Contest

Each year, the Germantown Municipal Council PTO hosts an essay contest for all students in grades K-12 in GMSD. This year, we are happy to present an essay contest created by one of our GMSD student interns, Priyanka Phaniraj, who is a Junior at Houston High School.
  • The topic for this year's essay contest is "What Does Diversity Mean to Me?"

Crossing Guards Needed

The Germantown Police Department is seeking to hire four new school crossing guards. The position will require the applicant to work two to four hours per day in an outdoor environment. The position is part time seasonal work and pays $13.25 per hour. Teacher of the Month

The Germantown Education Commission honors a teacher and student each month during the school year. Winners are selected from those nominated by parents, students, teachers or school administrators. Youth Excellence Award winners must be a high school senior living in Germantown but can attend any school. Teacher of the Month award winners must teach in a public or private school within Germantown. Awards are presented monthly during meetings of the Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Sponsors are invited to participate in the award presentation.
