S.T.A.R. Awards

Congratulations to our Dogwood 2020-2021 Germantown Municipal Council S.T.A.R. Award recipients!

Each year the Council recognizes those who go above and beyond for each of our Germantown Municipal Schools. The Awards Ceremony will be held in April, and award recipients and their families are invited to attend. Award recipients are nominated by their volunteer board, a school administrator, or anyone who recognizes the nominee's exceptional service to his or her school.

Nominees for this award should demonstrate exceptional dedication and service to their schools. Whether this person chairs an amazing event each year or is a key volunteer who makes it all come together, the S.T.A.R. nominee is kind and caring, brings out the best in others, and exemplifies the four criteria of the S.T.A.R. Award. Nominees may be a parent, a teacher, an administrator, an adult volunteer, a school crossing guard, or police officer.

Michelle Midha has been a huge resource and support to the DES Volunteer family for 8 years. She served on the PTO Board as the chairman for Environmental/ Beautification and for Health and Wellness. She implemented the Health Room, staffed solely by volunteers (pre-COVID) and spent many days volunteering for the role herself. She is the room parent for two virtual classrooms, which she makes seem easy as she has served as room parent and Grade Level Captain for K & 5th. She led the Dine and Dash fundraiser for Dolphinfest and serves on the Appropriations Committee. Michelle is always willing to step in and help in any way possible. Her positive energy and get it done attitude are invaluable gifts to DES.

In Michelle’s words: What I love most about being involved is the community at Dogwood and knowing that by working with the administrators and other awesome parents, we can really make a difference and give all our kids a great experience.

Mrs. Boyce has been a part of the DES family for 5 years. She is known for finding and encouraging each student’s talents and potential. Her approach of teaching the whole child, finding what works for the individual, and providing support ensures that each child in Mrs. Boyce’s class is full of confidence and knowledge.

Mrs. Boyce serves as the Faculty Advisor for the K-Kids club and has served on numerous committees such as Calendar, Communications, Data, Professional Development, Snapshots and the Testing Committee. She is always willing to support school events and can be spotted wherever help is needed.

In Mrs. Boyce’s words: The aspect of my career that is most rewarding at Dogwood is the feeling of community. Dogwood is a home away from home. We come together as a family in times of struggle and in times of celebration. Education is a true calling for me and I am so incredibly proud of the work we are doing to support our student community.

MadhiS_300x.png

Nurse Srinivasan has been a part of the DES family for 4 years. Nurse Madhi manages the school clinic and all of the students that need her with love and expertise. She is a great support for faculty and families alike (especially during this challenging year). Managing a typical clinic day with positivity takes skill. Managing a typical day while following and teaching COVID protocol with a smile takes Nurse Madhi skills. The DES family is grateful for Nurse Madhi sharing her skills, warmth and professionalism with us.

In Madhi’s words: I want to take this opportunity to thank you for bestowing the honor of GMC PTO STAR of Excellence Award on me. Dogwood is such a great school and can’t think of any other place I’d rather be working. This is my fourth year at Dogwood, and although it’s been a challenging year, I still look forward to coming into work every day. Like John F. Kennedy said, “Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future”, I strongly believe that we owe it to our children to give them the best possible education and provide a solid foundation for an all-round development. This belief pushes me every day to make each child feel comforted and loved. Whether it is a minor scratch or a broken bone, I treat each and every kid like I would like mine to be treated. I love being a part of this community. The administration, teachers and staff are so professional and we have a wonderful PTO that makes us feel so loved always. I can sum up my feelings and just say that at Dogwood, we are a family.

Welcome, Ms. Stallings!

My name is Kit Stallings and I am so excited to start working at Dogwood Elementary! I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama with my 3 brothers and sisters and did my undergrad at Auburn University. War Eagle! I moved to Memphis 5 years ago to work with the youth ministry at Second Presbyterian Church and got my Masters in School Counseling at the University of Memphis. I love living in Tennessee, going hiking on the weekends, riding my bike all over the greenline and eating Mexican food at Las Delicias on Friday nights. My favorite place in the entire world is the beach and my favorite job I’ve ever had (besides this new job of course) is Camp Counselor! I love working with children and hope to make their school experience fun and memorable. I can’t wait to get started at Dogwood and get to know your students!
