E-NEWS from Centennial Lutheran
August 31, 2020 | Vol. 2 - Is. 5
Pastor's (and family) farewell meal will be held on Sunday, September 13th after service. The meal planned will be: southern bbq pork, chicken and beef with potato salad, cole slaw, rolls, cornbread and hash browns.

We need a head count for the meal. If you are planning to attend this farewell dinner, can you please call the church office or sign up online?

Can you help with setting up, serving, or cleaning up the day of our event? Or donating a dessert? There are sign up sheets for all of these on our website

We hope you can make it to this service to say your last goodbyes to our wonderful Pastor as he embarks on the next phase of his ministry. Even though we are sad to see them go, we also know God has amazing things for them at Faith Lutheran in Fond Du Lac.

Karl and Rachel Christie
We have a new teacher at Word of Life!!! Mrs. Christie is our new 7-8 grade teacher.

Hello, Centennial family!

My name is Rachel Christie and I recently got married in July to Karl Christie who will be starting his second year at the seminary. I am from Buffalo, MN which is about 45 minutes northwest of Minneapolis! In May, I graduated from Martin Luther College with a degree in Elementary Education. Amidst the crazy season of COVID, the blessings of God never fail to pour over our cups. Karl and I are excited to meet fellow brothers and sisters who believe in the same, all-powerful triune God! I feel humbled and honor that I am able to serve you and your families. In my free time, I love to be outside either hiking, swimming, boating, or anything that involves the beautiful sun! I also enjoy reading. I have grown to love baking (credit to the stay at home order). And of course, in my free time, I love to watch tv whether that is Disney+ or Netflix. I pray that the Lord will keep you in good health as we start the school year.

May the Lord bless you and keep you,

Rachel Christie

Please feel free to welcome the Christies to Centennial whenever you see them at church.

New technology to assist and enhance meetings.

We would like to introduce you to our newest device making it easier to conduct meetings remotely. This device, called the eMeet Luna, is a conference speakerphone that will enable our committees and council to discuss upcoming committee work without actually being present. It will enable committees (up to 8 people) to talk to remote members and still get their input into planning and committee direction. Just connect by bluetooth, use the cord or included dongle and you're ready to go! This is one of the best ways that remote participants can be included in the conversation and remote Bible studies. It is available to all our committees going forward. We encourage you to utilize this great enhancement to communication provided for you.

The WELS Missions office is excited to partner with our friends at the Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS) to host an online event called Taste and See! This first-of-its-kind event will combine the very best of Taste of Missions and LWMS Convention to provide all WELS members an opportunity to be an important part of gospel outreach occurring in our synod.

You may recognize Craig Wilke in this video. Craig was one of our EFT students and is now pastor of a home mission church in Brandon, South Dakota, Sure Foundation Lutheran Church.
The Worship Committee has introduced a Hymn Request box. Do you have a favorite hymn? Write down your favorite hymn and share it with us. We will add your hymn in a future service.

The box is located in the church lobby and has all you need to request your favorite song or hymn for our future services.

Life on a university campus can be challenging in many ways. For Christian students, the values and beliefs they have held for their entire lives not only can be in the minority, but those beliefs can often be the object of ridicule and even attack. Add to that all of the other aspects of campus life that can be potentially harmful to their faith, and it’s easy to see that we want to do all we can to provide the support and spiritual resources that our young people will need when they head off to college.

The School of Outreach is a ministry provided by the WELS Commission on Evangelism and your District Evangelism Commission. The program serves congregations of the WELS with planning, assistance, and resources for congregational evangelism programming and implementation of outreach strategies. There are two one-day workshops that are scheduled several months apart.

If you are interested in attending along with along with members of the Evangelism committee, you are more than welcome.

Please contact Jeremy Nolte to express your interest so we include everyone in our registration.

The call process to call a new pastor will be coming in the next couple of weeks. Please keep your ears and eyes open for this important meeting that will determine the future ministry at Centennial. Be listening after church and watch your inbox for dates and times and more information. We ask you to pray for our new future pastor and our council as they make important decisions going forward and for all who will be voting on this call.
If you know of a Centennial member who does not have email who would benefit from this newsletter, please contact our church secretary, Lin Kanitz, so she can deliver a copy to them.
