October 2020
Every month, EFCA President Kevin Kompelien highlights stories, vision and leadership from around the EFCA in his monthly e-newsletter, "Partners with the President." This month, Kevin issued a call to unity based on Paul's call to the church in Ephesus in Ephesians 4:1-6.
EFCA West District Conference

Our District Conference is still on the calendar. We're all in need of a time away from the Covid-19 routine to gather together as leaders and members of EFCA West churches to celebrate, collaborate, learn and look to the future together.

Please mark these dates on your calendar and let other leaders in your congregation know as well.
Something To Talk About
Congregationalism - Friend or Foe?
The Evangelical Free Church defines itself (in part) as “an association and fellowship of autonomous but interdependent congregations of like faith and congregational government” that is focused on obeying the Great Commission to the glory of God. Yet, for some of us, the phrase “congregational government” brings bad thoughts and memories or tales of things gone horribly wrong.

Is congregationalism friend or foe? This is something to talk about

Election Night Communion

Wondering what election night will be like? Is there an option to sitting on the couch and watching pundits guess and argue about who the next president and national and local elected officials will be?

During a recent EFCA West regional ministry gathering in Utah, Andrew Camp, spiritual growth pastor at Mountain Life Church in Park City, Utah, shared the following about their experience hosting election night communion:

In 2016, Mountain Life Church hosted an Election Night Communion Service (a grassroots movement across the US), in which we gathered as a church family to remember that what unites us together is of far greater substance than what divides us. As we are all too aware, politics have become even more divisive since 2016. As church leaders, this service provides an opportunity to disciple our people away from the divisiveness of American politics and towards the unity Christ prayed for in John 17. We structured the service around the reading of Scripture, corporate reading of the Lord’s Prayer, as well as guided prayer time, culminating in celebrating communion together. The service lasts no more than an hour.
