March 2020
Registration is now open! Our biennial gathering will be June 18-19 at North Coast Church in Vista, CA. This gathering is not just for pastors or pastoral staff. Elders, deacons, volunteer ministry leaders, and anyone who provides ministry oversight in your local church will find the general sessions and workshops helpful.
Tim Jacobs
District Superintendent

I don’t know if this will raise or lower your opinion of me, but as I’ve been on the road and staying in a lot of hotels, I’ve recently gotten hooked on a show called Live PD. Have you seen it? Basically, they report on “live” police activity from six or seven different places spread out all over the country. If you have ADD and secretly wish you were a cop, this is the show for you.

So instead of “Live PD,” consider this article “Live DS,” where I take you on a quick tour of all the places in our district where I’ve had the chance to see what God is doing through our EFCA leaders.

SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT
Abuse - About the Book You Probably Have Not Yet Read
Bob Osborne
Director of Church Health

If you’ve read much about abuse in the church or had the terrible circumstance of dealing with it yourself, you know that when abuse surfaces, the most common reaction within the church is surprise. We just can’t believe that it happened here or that this person would actually commit abuse. It’s a surprise – but abuse is predictable. And though unpleasant, it’s something to talk about .
BETTER TOGETHER: What is a Normal Church Network?

It is an interactive, facilitated conversation about the issues the attendees want to talk about. Each session will be limited to 20 participants from churches averaging less than 250 in worship services each week. We will collaborate in picking the topics to be addressed and in addressing them.  There is no keynote speaker or canned presentations – you and the issues you are facing will be our only focus. Doug Moore , former pastor of First Evangelical Free Church of Los Angeles, and his wife Connie were recently featured in an article in US News and World Report . In 2015 Connie was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. From the article:

Doug and Connie Moore met at seminary. He was a student and pastor of an inner-city congregation, and she was a student and a public health nurse. "She’s the one who drew me to the needs of the poor," Doug says.
