Dedication of the Scoreboard and Blessing of the Athletes

The annual Blessing of the Athletes coincided with the Dedication of the Scoreboard donated by Westfield Bank on September 3. Over 200 student athletes were in attendance on the soccer field to receive a special Blazer medal as staff, faculty, and trustees offered prayers and good wishes for a safe and healthy year. Joining us, and shown in the picture above, were James C. Hagan President and CEO of Westfield Bank and his wife, Kristin Ferriter Hagan '96, member of Elms College's Board of Trustees.

Green & Gold Golf Classic

After a 5-year pause, the Elms Athletic Department brought back the Green & Gold Golf Classic. The golf tournament took place October 10 at Westover Municipal Golf Course in Granby. The turnout was good, the weather fantastic, and a good time was had by all. Proceeds from the event went to men's and women's athletic programs at Elms.

On Campus

Founders' Day

Each year on Oct. 15, we celebrate Founders' Day in tribute to the Sisters of St. Joseph who founded our college in Chicopee nearly 100 years ago. Each Founders' Day, we invite the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield to come to our campus for a Mass in St. Joseph's Chapel, and then lunch in the Mary Dooley College Center. It is our opportunity to meet with the Sisters, hear their stories, and express our deepest appreciation for their lifetime of service.

The Longest Table

The First Year Seminar hosted “The Longest Table” on Monday, October 18 through which all first year students were able to “Connect. Create Community. Eat + Have Fun.” The event fostered a space for meaningful and courageous dialogue, encouraging the exchange of ideas, responsible engagement, relationship-building, and storytelling. It promoted respectful conversations across diverse viewpoints, with the shared goal of learning, understanding, and making informed decisions.

Inaugural Future Educators Networking Event

Dozens of graduate and undergraduate students within our Division of Education turned out to hear from educational professionals representing the full range of experiences in teaching and administrative careers. Participating in the panel were Joseph Williamson, a 2025 graduate now a first-year teacher with Chicopee Public Schools; Declan O’Connor '92, executive principal with the Springfield Empowerment Zone Partnership; Olivia Wegman Rivera '15 '25, a veteran middle school teacher with Holyoke Public Schools; and John Provost, superintendent of the Hampden-Wilbraham Regional School District.

The event, sponsored by Elms Career Services and the Division of Education, offered valuable perspectives and networking opportunities for those considering careers in education.
