February 2024 Edition

On Campus

Join us on March 18 to watch Dear Neighbor, a play created by Sr. Jane Morrissey '62, SSJ.

Sr. Jane is a past president of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield and past co-chair of the Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph.  From 1976 to 1991, Sr. Jane taught in the English Department of the College of Our Lady of the Elms. Recently she has published a memoir, “Finding Jane in the Box,” that speaks to her deep faith, devotion to those in need, and commitment to peace, justice, and nonviolence. There is no charge for this event.

Pioneer Valley Symphony

On March 16 at 7 p.m., Elms College is hosting the Pioneer Valley Symphony as they perform a concert called “Burden of Hope.” The program includes Roxanna Panufnik’s violin concerto, which celebrates the connection between the Abrahamic faiths by weaving music from Jewish, Muslim, and Christian traditions. Panufnik wrote this piece in consultation with faith leaders in the wake of the attacks on September 11, 2001, as a message of unity and hope out of darkness. The symphony will also play Symphonie Fantastique from 19th century French composer Hector Berlioz. In this piece, Berlioz describes the story of an artist fixated on a woman who does not return his affections.
