Nominations
The Nominating Committee prepares the slate of new committee members to present at our November Presbytery Meeting each year. We solicit suggestions for elders, pastors, and church leaders from our member churches.
A description can be found on the Nominations Committee Suggestions Form for each committee. Committee members are asked to serve at least one two-year term. Committees typically meet once a month. You do not have to make a suggestion for each committee.
Some factors to consider when suggesting yourself or others to serve as church officers:
Church involvement: regular attendance at worship, active participation in church activities, offices held and leadership rendered, evidence of commitment to the church and its mission, understanding of and commitment to Presbyterian polity.
Christian life: evidence of grace and compassion in common life, evidence of maturity and effectiveness of ministry in the world.
Personal qualifications: cooperativeness, willingness to listen, readiness to learn, ability to follow through on assignments, organizational ability, creativity, openness to new ideas, maturity of judgment, freedom to express ideas and thoughts.
Other factors: occupational background and life experience, service in other organizations, interest in particular causes, offices held and quality of performance in them, education and training in the duties and responsibilities of that office.
***Please note: You may access the PDF version of this form simply by clicking on the form title above or here: Nominations Committee Submission Form. To begin completing the form, you should use "Save as ..." to create a new file (i.e. "NomForm.pdf") then attach it to an email or print and return by September 1 to: lwhite@foothillspresbytery.org

Faithful Innovation Learning Communities
|
|
Participating congregations will be discerning their unique answer to this question: "When you consider the gifts you have been given and the needs of our world, what future do you imagine God is bringing forth in our midst?"
What is a Learning Community?
A learning community is a group of congregations who commit to one another in a learning experience. Through prayer, skill-building, action, and reflection they address their most pressing questions about the future.
The faithful innovation process works using three distinct practices:
Listen, Act, and Share.

The REvangelism Conference is designed to take you on a deeper journey into faith: into the lives of others, into justice, hope, and the wonder of God. Together we will practice habits of Evangelism that will engage us in the gospel of good news — God’s justice and reconciliation for the world.
At REvangelism you will interact with the wise, diverse voices in the church who contributed to the 8-Habits of Evangelism resource. As you work through each habit together, you will experience the goodness and richness of Christ’s body and the Holy Spirit transforming you, and the world around you.

“The human mind plans the way, but the LORD directs the steps.” Proverbs 16:9
If you think being a church professional during COVID is difficult, try planning a Sabbatical when everything is shut down! This is the dilemma I was faced with recently. However, I found out that the Lord truly does direct our steps, even when we cannot see the way.
When I was installed as the pastor at Nazareth Presbyterian Church on August 27, 2017, I asked to break my Sabbatical into two parts. I did this mostly because the idea of not working for three months scares the bejabbers out of me! And before I knew it, three and a half years had come and gone, and it was time to plan a Sabbatical – right in the middle of COVID.

After doing things that NONE of us were trained to do in Seminary – learning how to how to write, direct, produce and star in a weekly television show; developing a “phone ministry”; being Head of Staff to staff that was working at home; finding ways to keep the congregation connected when we never saw each other; and not being able to practice the ministry of presence – I as “slap wore out” as we say in the south. The Session was more than agreeable to honor the commitment made in 2017. I was blessed that the Rev. Pressley Cox was available and willing to fill in for six weeks. The problem – WHERE TO EXPERIENCE SABBATH WHEN EVERYTHING IS SHUT DOWN? Read More
