You’re invited to the 19th annual Broward Water Matters Month.
During the entire month of March, celebrate Water Matters – Broward Cares! in the County’s largest virtual environmental event. Due to social distancing considerations, our annual event is going virtual during the entire month of March.

Something Fun Worth Sharing - LEGO IDEAS Goes Green
LEGO IDEAS gives LEGO fans the opportunity to come up with an awesome idea and become a LEGO Fan designer! Product Ideas take a long time to develop, you'll have to promote your project and only the very best will win the hearts—and votes— of LEGO fans, but the incredible prize of seeing your creation become a real LEGO set makes all that effort worthwhile.

Currently there are two eco designs submitted, so if you are a LEGO fan (LEGOs, puzzles, and games have been a big part of my household activities over the past year) you can crate a free account and vote for your favorite.

Sunrise Helps Mark Major Resilience Milestone for the South Florida Region
The C-51 Reservoir will allow for water to be stored for use during the dry season as needed to recharge the Biscayne Aquifer, the primary source of drinking water for South Florida – including Sunrise.

Through our participation, Sunrise will gain access to millions more gallons of water a day once the reservoir is completed – a significant asset supporting our future water demands.

This water can be withdrawn from Sunrise’s existing well fields and treated at the City Utility’s existing water treatment plants with no additional capital investment, and the operating expense associated with the C-51 project is minimal.

The City of Sunrise Utilities Department is committed to providing Quality on Tap. For additional information about Department services and programs, visit the Sunrise Utilities webpage.
C-51 Reservoir, a significant asset for future drinking water supply
A public-private partnership that will result in additional water resources for Sunrise
Following a 15-year collaboration between local governments, public water utilities (including the City of Sunrise Utilities), private entities, regional agencies, and the State of Florida, the first phase of the C-51 Reservoir recently broke ground - a project that will provide an alternate water supply source for eight public water utilities in South Florida.

Named after its primary water source, the 14,000 acre-foot in-ground reservoir (located in central Palm Beach County) will store and route excess wet-season stormwater for later distribution through the South Florida Water Management District’s primary canal system.

The project will supply South Florida utilities with an additional 35 million gallons of water a day from the Biscayne Aquifer, helping ensure our region’s access to reliable fresh water, and providing important additional environmental benefits by reducing stormwater discharges to coastal water.

Phase 1 is expected to be completed by January 2023.
